Add Author To Australian Idol! Damien Signs Up With HarperCollins 12.02.07 www.damienleith.com.au/newsEvents/home.do?newsId=20030829004211Not satisfied with just being a singer and a songwriter, Damien is just about to add another checkbox to his ever growing list of creative achievements: published author. Damien began writing his debut novel more than three years ago while trekking in Nepal and it's just been picked up for release by HarperCollins Publishers Australia. Way to go Damien! The signing represents over a year of communications between Damien and HarperCollins, after a mutual friend introduced him to fiction publisher, Linda Funnell, prior to his Idol success. "I was first drawn to Damien's writing well before his Idol victory, so I know Damien first as a writer," says Linda Funnell. "Damien contacted me back in 2005 and I read an early draft of his novel. I thought it had terrific potential - a really strong story - and gave him some feedback for rewrites. Then the whole Idol thing happened and I thought the novel would be on the back burner. So it's wonderful to have the chance to publish it now." Currently untitled, Damien's novel is an inspiring story of courage and hope, and is due to hit shelves this October. Damien explained that he began writing the suspense novel while trekking in Nepal more than three years ago, and that it contains a little bit of mystery, a little of action and naturally, a love subplot! Stay tuned for more news on Damien's novel coming soon...

A similar story here: Herald Sun 13 FEB 07 The best of tomes AUSTRALIAN Idol winner Damien Leith is about to become a published author. Harper Collins will publish the Irish crooner's debut fiction novel after a year of discussions. Fiction publisher Linda Funnel said she was impressed by Leith's writing before he was famous. "I was first drawn to Damien's writing well before his Idol victory, so I know Damien first as a writer," Funnel said. "Damien contacted me back in 2005 and I read an early draft of his novel. "I thought it had terrific potential, a really strong story, and gave him feedback for rewrites. "Then the whole Idol thing happened and I thought the novel would be on the back burner." It had been reported the novel was a travel story in the vein of Alex Garland's The Beach. Harper Collins called the as-yet untitled tome an "inspiring story of courage and h ope". It is set to go on sale in October.

Harper Collins have a guaranteed best seller in the making. Damien is a multi-talented man, and oh so versatile! I'm looking forward to reading his novel later this year.
