I've been reading a lot in the media lately and it seems now that Damien is in the top two, a lot of his fans will no longer be voting for him. The general consensus is that people are not going to vote for him now because of the 'coming second syndrome'. In other words the belief is that he will do better if he doesn't win but comes second and this is based on the precedent set in past Idol competitions. THIS IS NOT THE CASE! Sony have told both Damien and Jessica that only the winner of Australian Idol will receive a recording contract. There is nothing on offer for the runner-up. This is not hearsay, I have it on good authority that this is the case.
I'm sure that Damien will do well even if he doesn't win Australian Idol but it would be a travesty if he got this far and didn't win only because his fans think he would be better off as the runner-up. Damien has worked incredibly hard to get into the top two and I'm sure that both he and Eileen have made a lot of sacrifices so that he could embark on the Idol journey with the full hope of winning. He's been trying to get a break for the last 10 years with constant rejection and I for one don't want to see the look of disappointment on his face if he doesn't win!
Damien's father and brother arrive in Australia tomorrow and just imagine how proud the whole family will be when they take their seats at the Opera House to hear Damien sing one more time as an Australian Idol.
Please keep voting so that we can all see that beautiful winning smile once more.

Oh gosh, I hope they still vote. I think it's important also for Damo to get the recognition of being number one, and he is definitely number one! This is his dream. I hope everyone still votes. I know my hubby and I will be voting like crazy for him. I want to help make his dream come true.

I couldn't agree more. Damien is going to be inundated with opportunities no matter what happens, but the SonyBMG deal is a big one and he absolutely deserves it. The #1 spot is the guarantee of a contract!
My mother is going to get some extra money out of the bank this week so we can vote for him. It's not much, but we're doing what we can and since it's the last week we can go all out and should.
Second place syndrome is nonsense - Damien is a competition rebel as we've already seen and will do just as well in first place, with a lot more open to him.
We have to make sure we spread the word about this in the time we have left.

I hope people still vote for him, I will be devastated if he loses. Second does not necessarily grant more success - look at Emily, she is going nowhere on her own (not that she's any good)
That theory won't stop me from voting. I'll save my credits and more to vote for Damien this Sunday - Man, he owes me a lot of money he better return it when he gets succesfull lol!

It's not just about the record deal - our Damien would be a superstar anyway - it's about the place in the competition! If he came first, that would stick it to the critics of Idol! As much as I like Jess, I think we all want Damien to be not just an ambassador of music within Australia, but an internation ambassador for Australian music! |

I don't think anyone here would follow him all this way then not vote. But I hope the general public will also still keep voting too!
And then again, this will probably be evened out by Jess fans thinking the same thing!

I have heard some of his fans say that they would prefer him to be runner up....what rubbish is that.....If he wins he is guaranteed a deal and he really wants to win this.....can you just imagine the moment when they announce he is the winner....don't we all want to know what that's like....
I know I'll be voting more times this week than I did last week, I voted about 115 times last week lol.

I agree. It's not just about the record deal - our Damien would be a superstar anyway - it's about the place in the competition! If he came first, that would stick it to the critics of Idol! As much as I like Jess, I think we all want Damien to be not just an ambassador of music within Australia, but an internation ambassador for Australian music! Yes yes!!! I think Damien has more international appeal than Jess does. He's already got fanbase and Ireland and It will only keep growing! BTW... the little voice in me wants Dammy to get invited to perform to American Idol just like Guy did couple years ago. Way to show how great he is - I'm sure they will be spellbound with Dammy's spectacular voice. |

Damien does have international appeal and I think he could be the first idol to be really successful internationally.

It's not that we don't need another diva... we need someone who can do something other than belting out big notes. Sadly, the so-called divas can only do that, without injecting much emotion to their songs. That's why the divas right now do not get the support, because they do not connect to the audience (all they do is shouting the big notes and that's it). I think it will be fantastic to have a Diva with personality, with emotion - not just a carbon copy of one another. |
