So she's saying Jess should win because she's a purist - she's breaking the mold of girls who want to be famous and do nothing about it by becoming famous and doing something to get there? Damien absolutely demolishes the mold - he is neither a teenage girl, nor wants to be famous - he just wants to create good music. And how much is that breaking the model, when you see the number of self-centred, talentless wonders who turn up to auditions and at Centrelink offices? It's silly for people like this chick or Mark to say "so and so should be the Aussie Idol" because if it doesn't eventuate, what then? Dean is gone, he's never going to be the AI, and obviously shouldn't be if he didn't have enough votes to keep him in the comp! If not enough people vote for him when he's on TV, how many are going to buy his CD when he's not on TV? Is Idol ending going to have a magic effect on him? Even though I'm biased in that I want Damien to win, I don't go slamming other idols like that. It's unproductive and childish. I can see her point of view, but she doesn't seem sincere - if she was really worried about 'breaking molds' and setting examples, she should be happy for either one of them to win. Perhaps I'm missing the point - I scanned the article after the first few lines. Really winter, I don't know how you read it long enough to type it up! :bashthatgirl:

Aaaaargh.......it just keeps getting worse!!! Save us!!!! Who the bloody hell does "Naomi Toy(?~!?!) think she is? She's a cheap, no-good trashy journo, that's what. Hey hey... now she has her own opinion. Just because hers are different to ours, that doesn't mean she is a no-good trashy journalist. She giver her opinion backed with clear argument. So I believe we need to respect it though I believe most of us, if not all, disagree with it. As I post in in another forum: I can see her argument that Jess is a nice girl who can become an antidote to trash mag inhabitants. But isn't the previous winner, Kate is already that? I think Kate is as genuine as Jess, even though she doesn't giggle as much. The reason why I think Damien should be the IDOL is because [similarly to Jess] can become an antidote to the music world who is currently trashed with junk (you can see trashy music with girls dancing in bikini everyday). I feel that currently music world is all about sound and commerciality and lacking art. Hence why I feel the music world needs Damien - a singer who performs with so much passion and amotion. He too can set example to the community that in order to pursue career in music, you don't need to seel your soul. You don't need to conform with the trend (that is filled with rubbish) nor that you don't need to create scandals in order to become famous. You need sincerity in music, in which Damien has. No dissing to Jess but I am curious to see what path in music. I do believe that her favourite singer is Mariah - not sure if the old Mariah or the current Mariah. If it's the latter, well umm.... I have nothing to comment >oy:. And really... she loves loves loves girl thingycat Dolls. Man I despise those girls!!! I hope Jess is not going to their path!!! Why am I arguing about the music world? Because sadly I see teenagers are too consumed in trashy music is not even funny. I strongly believe that music influences the way they behave and whatnot. I shudder with fear whenever I fear songs filled with profanity, sexuality and lust. Hence I think we need someone who can contribute in changing the music world as an Idol (it is a singing competition after all). That is why I think Jess is not ready yet - she needs to develop maturity in music. Right now she is still 'imitating' other Diva/RnB singers in style.

I thought the whole thing was about record deals and sales, not radio airplay. If I heard Jess on the radio, I'd listen in as she has a beautiful voice, but if I wanted to spend money on a CD I'd buy Damien's music and share it with others and I'd spend money on going to see him play live. If I wanted to hear something like Jess's music I'd dig up some of my existing female artists' CDs...Does that sound negative? It's not meant to be, but surely people must see that with Damien going through to the top 2 based on votes from the public that the whole Australian Idol thing has a much wider audience than just the Video Hits watchers... I've spoken to lots of people who aren't voting because they don't want to get caught up in the 'money making spin' of idol, but they're all gagging to buy Damien's music. ( I start every phone conversation with "Hi, have you voted for Damien yet?") I think the demand is there even if the votes aren't...I've been trying to pace myself with voting, but I've lost track of how many I've sent through. Will have to wait until phone bill comes and get the post before the husband does!

Man... get those people to VOTE - it won't hurt them to spent 55 c to vote once...I have bugged my friends and 5 of them already have voted (though I lied by saying it only costs 25 c to vote - I hope karma won't come to haunt me). Yeah I also said if Damien wins, I'll get them his CD for their upcoming b'day presents ^___^

Good plan - not so much the lying about call costs (!), but buying them CDs. I've thought about asking them to vote as my Christmas present, kind of like asking them to sponsor a child from Africa for a wedding present...maybe not. But maybe it's more like donating to your favorite charity for a funeral instead of flowers? Maybe not that either...you know what I mean though...

Hi guys...so sorry I posted the last story with a rather inflammatory style and then ran! But my electoral duty called.... I agree Janny, as much as we may not like some opinions, there are many reasons that people vote for someone! I have read alot recently about a couple of these reasons - that Damien is not "Pop-Idol" material, and that he is not Australian. I think I'll save the "not-Australian" one for another post, or this will become a novel In terms of Damien not being a "Pop-Idol" or fitting this notion of what the Australian Idol is..... In some ways I do believe Mark has a point *ducks flying objects*...Damien probably isnt as geared up to fit the commercial radio mould as Dean and Jess are. He probably wouldnt get as much airplay. But frankly, thats one of the reasons that Damien appeals to me so much! I really dont listen to much commercial radio at all...I find it bland and uninteresting - theres something so "samey" about it. I know that Damien has appealed to a great variety of people, icluding those who dont normally watch Idol. And I think this reason is what janny stated earlier.... in Damien we see a performer who comes from the heart and is true to himself - something that I think is rare in mainstream music. Personally, and I wrote this as a reply to the newspaper article, I find this far more inspiring than a young girl with a brilliant voice who has yet to mature into her musical identity. And I know I'm in my 30's, but cant I have a role-model too? Someone to look up to amongst all the fakeness that is out there?

Well I won't be mad saying that Damien does fit into the 'pop' mould. I don't even think being considered as a pop singer is a good think. Frankly, I think pop music is filled with commerciality and that it will not last. What we want is art in music. We want musicians that touch our hearts and has longevity in the music industry. That's where Damien fits in, not in the pop industry where many have sold their souls.
For the record, I happen to be 19 and I don't give a damn about pop music (some are nice but I can live without it). In my eyes, Damien is the perfect Idol

Speaking of which, I have already got 5 people oting for him *proud*.
And my friend, who's also a fan of Damien, used this funny method to get someone voting. She was like: "Hey... you know what. Take out your mobile phone *waited till they got the mobiles out*. I know something fun... typed Damien. D-A-M-I-E-N to 191010. You will not regret!"
Lol you would think that somoene will not fall for that but she actually pulled it off on 2 people so far. In the end, she gave them a listen of Damien's Night of My Life (through my MP3 player) and said "That's who you voted for. Amazing, isn't he?"
I could not help but laugh...

That's stupid. Damo's fans love him for his music and his personality we don't want to be like him. There's plenty of older artists around. I think it's kind of dumb to look up to and want to be like celebrities anyway. Just be yourself, don't some people have a brain to know what's right and wrong that they have to copy someone else? Just because Jess is nice doesn't mean other 17 year olds are going to copy her anyway. And there's plenty of artists out there that aren't a good example but I aint gonna go copying them.

Just read marks comments I thought it was Australian idol not pop idol? "Idol judgements will determine future star" Does that mean they have already rigged it so Jess wins? Or if Damo wins the judes will bag him at every chance and deliberatly not play him on their radio stations? I do think that the judges and the media can make or break someone if they want to and there seems to be a lot of negative articles this week about Damo Mark just wants Dean and Jess signed up because all he see's is $$$ "Being young and pretty helps immensely when it comes to being a marketable pop star" What about being able to sing and be original? And I don't think Damo wants to be a pop star anyway. Plus she says Jess has better stage presents. Sorry but I would never go and see her in concert and I think Damo has great stage presents. I would definetly go see him in concert. I so hope Damo wins now so they see all their stupid comments mean nothing. I just wish they would stop sticking their nose in it trying to rig the votes Jess's way. Hopefully it'll backfire and more people will vote for Damo. But I'm starting to wonder if it really matters, they seem to have their minds made up who's gonna win. Just because I can ;D
