Richard Wilkins just confirmed on Channel 9 that TWJ has sold 400,000 copies and has passed the 5X Platinum mark. Congratulations, Damien!

Well, we don't have any "official" confirmation of this - and Richard Wilkins obviously likes Damien so I wouldn't blame him for... exaggerating but Damien seemed to agree with it, and I guess he'd know. Didn't someone else somewhere say it had gone 5X Platinum as well? It's about time! ...400 000 copies...

Richard Wilkins usually has reliable sources from the music/record industry. I think at the N.S.W Labor Party campaign launch yesterday Damien was introduced as the 5X Platinum selling artist. However, according to the ARIA chart site, TWJ is still at quadruple platinum status.

Yeah, that confused me. I guess it must have happened after the charts were finalised for that week.
Well, it's something to look forward to seeing on next week's ARIA charts!

I'm starting not to trust that ARIA chart: I can't believe TWJ slumped from #7 to #16 in one week? They better start updating those platinum certification figures.

er....I thought 5x platinum would be 350,000 copies? If 1x platinum is 70,000? Very happy to be wrong on this one, but just thought I'd mention it I think I'll wait for the champagne till next weeks aria charts too..as they seem to determine these accreditations ;D One more thing on aria charts...and this is my take and opinion on them, so please dont think I'm stating facts or suggesting how they should be interpreted or having a dig at anyone.... The charts dont cover every store and every sale made in the country...they are an estimate, like a poll or survey. I believe, that if you give merit to the positive figures (5 weeks at number 1, platinum accreditations etc) and celebrate them, then you need to give merit to ALL the figures the charts produce..even when they dont swing in your favour Otherwise...well....it comes across a little like sour grapes That being said, as nice as good figures are (and I do enjoy these chart results!), its not the be all and end all of success. I would regard an album of D originals that barely charts as more successful ,in my eyes, than TWJ...

400,000 copies sold? That's pretty close to 6X Platinum. Damien is going to do just as well with the new album, I hope.

I think you should trust the ARIA Charts, ppl.
And I think you will find that the "5 Platinum" references is to the COMBINED TWJ and NOML sales (the former 4P, the latter 1P).

Well said Winter. I too would rather see Damien produce musical triumph with average chart success than chart-topping heartless drivel. We all know Damien is worthy of the highest honours possible, and I guess that does make it hard for us to view the ARIA charts without some bias. ;D And thanks Dede for clearing up the confusion.

I'm sure I heard Richard Wilkins say this morning that TWJ HAD GONE 5 X PLATINUM, but I guess he might have been combining its sales with those of the single - maybe the next ARIA chart might tell the story?
