Hi everyone ! I was sending set list reports to Carla as well but poor thing her net went down and she could not post. But not to worry am home after a GREAT show and reporting in

lol I was a one girl DLO tonight It seemed so strange without everyone else there! I really missed everyone but it was amazing how many people were still there that I knew!!!


I was halfway up the auditorium and was woooing and cheering and leading the clapping in my area - OMG I was working hard, and my hands will probably have blisters in the morning

I really made an effort to be an extrovert since it was all up to me tonight as far as DLO is concerned (lol God help us ) and I got right into it like when I was up the front at Mingara to get my section moving and joining in at the right spots, which they were doing anyway

Dee Why has been great both times I've been there and wow they really can sing up there on the northern beaches!

I have no idea if Damien saw me at all from stage, it's possible he may have, I got a feeling he may have at one point? He more than likely heard the mad person wooing while he was doing his dancing and laughing in hysterics from the back when HE HAD A GO AT THE SINGING IN WOLLONGONG AGAIN I was laughing so hard he must have heard and he made a crack about it being ok, it wouldn't get back to them - "OH YES IT WILL!!!" I called out

Great bit of fun, Damien was telling lots of new stories on stage tonight which I have dutifully written down in big letters, in the dark with one word reminders


I don't know how the regulars who do the set lists do it, lol. Actually we are lucky we have one at all because we were 2 songs in when I remembered OMG I HAVE TO DO THE SET LIST!!! and I went flying through my bag in the dark looking for my pen and notebook. We nearly lost it all later when I knocked a full drink all over it during the encore - I think Damien may have noticed the mad scramble on the table in the distance to save handbags, clothes and setlist material - OMG I told you all you were in trouble having me do it, but it is safe, and we have our set list


You will be proud to know I roped in a few ladies next to me who happened to just be CLASSICAL CHOIR SINGERS and had operatic voices!! So, when it came to vocal support for Damien WE STRUCK GOLD!!


I filled them in on the singalong song cues and when it was the right time we were belting it out and hitting those big notes for Damo

We were also all set to yell out STALKER at the right moment before 22 Steps but Damien got in first and called himself a Stalker , so we didn't get a chance to do that one! Lol I cannot believe these classically trained singers were all set to yell out "Stalker" at Damien, and because I had egged them on

Last time we all had a great time at Dee Why and this was the same. It's a gorgeous venue, has won awards as a club and deservedly so, it's beautifully designed and was very festive tonight. There was a choir roaming through the club singing Christmas songs, good food, great vibe about.

When we went inside we settled in and got chatting with some people near us which was nice. We also saw some of Eil's family and said hi and wished them a Happy Christmas, which was lovely to be able to do.

During the show Damien made some jokes about cooking the turkey this year. He was saying on stage that he will be the one to cook the Christmas turkey and someone across the other side of the room groaned. Damien laughed and said "Has that person been to my place for dinner?" He's quick as a flash with those little asides, all those years gigging really show, he has that interaction with the audience to perfection.

The new song!

This is how Damien described the new song he has written, Matty (or maybe Mattie (?) ), before he sung it. He said it is inspired by the story of a boy character in his new book (which he also said on stage he is going to finish up by the end of Christmas).

I would say it's a very melodically pretty song, really beautiful and delicate on the grand piano that's for sure! It definitely tells a story, which is something Damien has been saying he is heading towards in his songwriting. It also reminds me of the way he really observes characters in his other songs, and their troubles and emotions, and what they are going through.

Like Goodnight, I find it very instantly memorable and it has a great little anthemic bit in it too where the crowd can (and did) sing along. He asked the crowd's opinion whether it should be on the album and we all cheered for it to be included.

I hope Damien might play it at some of his other remaining shows too!


I mentioned seeing some familiar faces! DLO's friends from the A&R event last year and Parramatta this year were there (the photography couple) and also I was really delighted to run into one of the girls who had been at the Special Olympics event Nuffy and I attended this year (the Golden Rose Race Day - and as usual all meetings seem to occur in the ladies!).


There was a large table from the Special Olympics right up the front tonight and that was fantastic to see! Damien mentioned them from the stage and the crowd applauded, and then he mentioned he was an ambassador for them, and we all cheered again. Was a really nice moment! After the show I asked some of the gang from the SO if they enjoyed themselves and they had loved it and had a great night out


After the show finished b/f and I went over to the stage to say hi to Jimmy and wish him a very Merry Christmas. We had a good chat and he was saying how he was so glad to have learned Message to My Girl because it's such a beautiful song. I agreed and mentioned how I had grown up on Split Enz & seen Neil Finn sing it many times live and loved it, but loved Damien's even more now - the proof is there too in that I had a choice between going to see Crowded House this year or one more Damien show and I picked Damien, no contest.

B/f took a pic of me standing next to Damien's tour poster outside the auditorium so we had a Damienite pic to bring home to post here lol. Will post in C&A later Have a couple of pics for the gallery later too

We decided on getting home early after one big Hut already this week and were heading out when we heard a familiar Irish voice! We looked around & Damien saw us as he was being escorted out & came over on his way past and said a quick hello & Happy Christmas before leaving. He mentioned the new song and I said I was so glad to have heard it and really liked it.

Was so nice that we saw Damien for a moment at the very end of our last show this tour, just a great way to finish - wow what a year of great memories and brilliant times!!!!

Thank you so much Damien for such a fantastic tour - you've been amazing each and every show and we will never forget it all

I hope everyone who goes to see the last few shows has a great time & hope Damien will also play the new song there as well!

Wow Shims, what a great job you did as on the spot DLO reporter and crowd leader...... so glad the crowd was into it and you certainly had a terrific set list with so many Christmas songs......finally. It's great you got to see and talk with D. Thanks so much for the great report and looking forward to your shots ;D ;D

Wow Shims, what a great report, its great to hear that he sang some of his Christmas songs, and a brand new song too, I hope we get to hear it eventually.I'm glad you got to say "hello and Merry Christmas" to Damien after the show also, how lucky he's so gorgeous.

I sooooooooooo wanted to go to this show and was tempted right till the end and of course, so wish I did now!

I am still gobsmacked by that set list and the LENGTH OF IT!

thanks so much everyone, it was such a fun show but I also missed you all and at least it felt like you were there and could be part of it with me. It was so nice we saw Damien at the very end for a moment too, a lovely finish to a great night out. I remember last time at Dee Why thinking how huge and empty the stage seemed - but not when there's a grand piano on it! - then it seems perfect!!!!! I really hope the other shows have a grand piano too, the sound was amazing & really suits the music so well.

I haven't heard "There for You" - from what I've heard everyone here saying in the reports that one sounds incredible too! Like "Goodnight" I enjoyed "Matty" immediately, and was listening to the story in the song and wondering how it would all turn out for the character and why they were feeling like they did - aaaah bring on teh book!!!!

lol now you won't believe it, but I have my own wardrobe controversy I forgot to say last night!!!

Like at the Vanguard there is a confusion over the colour of something - this time Damien's shoes (the non-committal connies ) - except in this case I am having the argument with myself over what colour they were

When I sent the wardrobe report to Carla I was sure they were green ones. Then later in the show I thought - hang on weren't they green before?? now they look black?? I thought it might have been the lighting but by the end I seriously couldn't tell at all what colour they were! Maybe even grey?

- so apparently we all weren't going mad at the Vanguard with our trouble identifying colour - it seems to be some sort of condition we've developed that has now spread to other shows

I made sure to write the report of this one while it was all fresh as later on I am still doing my pretteh from the Vanguard which I have barely started!! What a week, it's been fantastic and crazy and busy but the perfect time of year for fantastic/crazy/busy and I'm loving it.

lol I also forgot to mention my sympathy for the poor lady next to me - in lieu of a Damienite being next to me (& b/f was across the table) - the lady next to me is probably still in shock at being grabbed on the shoulder when Damien mentioned a new song as well as when I heard him starting songs like MTMG as well as teh piano I am so used to one of you being there that it's an automatic reaction
