From the November 18 issue of the Weekend Post [the Saturday version of Cairns Post printed in Cairns North Queensland where I live] page 7 full page article by Julie Lightfoot lightfoot@tcp.newsltd.com.au "Songbirds Spread Wings - "NQ Finalists live music dream" [about 2 North Queensland finalists Klancie Keough and last years Natalie Zahra]. Bottom of article has insert -
"Final Two Contestants Battle It Out For Singing Supremacy"
Name: Damien Leith. Age: 30. Origin: Ireland but now lives in Newtown Sydney. Status: Married with son. Occupation: Chemist. Australian Idol audition song:Damien Rice - The Blowers Daughter. Any formal singing training? No training, prefers to be natural. Other hobbies: Writing songs and recently finished writing his first novel. Who is his idol? His wife Eileen and son Javis. Favourite judge? Marcia Hines. If he becomes famous what would be his diva demand for his dressing room? A fridge stocked with Guinesss[beer].
[+ goes on to profile Jessica]
Anyone have any more details on the "first novel" reference?

I expect it is on the back burner just now.

I guess without giving too much away. I read it because my husband is in the book industry. It is about a mans (Damien maybe) journey, set in Nepal not a travel dairy but a discovery of what this person is capable of (I hope I don't sound wacky). This man deals with personal emotions that would be staggering for most. It's amusing in parts which made me laugh and sad which made me cry.
It covers his love, his friendships, and death with great courage. A good read

I knew there were many reasons I loved this man! A musician, song writer, singer and a writer.. There's something oh so sexy about creative men ;-) (goes off to naughty corner). How great would it be if he and Eileen collaborated. On his second album (after he wins Idol I mean), Damo writes all the songs and Eileen does the cover artwork!

I guess I shouldnt be suprised that D can write...he is quite the storyteller when he performs I wonder, perhaps after a bit of distance, whether he may be the first Australian Idol to write about the experience..in his own words? Would be fascinating And I really hope some of Eileens work graces D's releases in the future - I couldnt think of anything more special

Thanks so much Lindy for letting us know the story outline. I would love to read it. It definitely sounds like Damien's journey. I know that he did go to Nepal and he wrote the song Bigger Plan during his travels there and in India. He said the trip opened his eyes and he felt like he had grown so much through the experience that it was mind blowing.
You are so privileged to have read it.
Hugs,
Belinda

Yeah the thought crossed my mind already, I'd love to see some of her work! Creative people - don't you love 'em? And don't you hate people who are jealous of creativity - like Mark? Really, how many talents can one guy have? Thank god he's modest! There are heaps of people far less talented than him who are completely up themselves!
