GRAMMY award winning artist Pink will focus her gaze once more on Australia by unleashing her punk rock hits on concert-goers at the third annual 2007 MTV Australia Video Music Awards in Sydney later this month.
The American singer, who made headlines here last year when she first backed the campaign by animal rights group PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) against Australia's sheep mulesing policy and then changed her mind, will join international guests at the music event.
Hosted by Black Eyed Peas frontwoman Fergie and identical twins Benji and Joel Madden of US rock band Good Charlotte, the April 29 awards ceremony will be held at Sydney's Acer Arena in Olympic Park.
Australian singer turned Hollywood star Sophie Monk and celebrity blogger Perez Hilton will host a red carpet special, while Kristen Cavallari of US TV program Laguna Beach will brush shoulders with actor and 30 Second To Mars frontman Jared Leto, 2006 Australian Idol winner Damien Leith and solo artist Teddy Geiger.
And for the first time punters will have their chance at experiencing the glamour and craziness of the awards show up close, with tickets for the event going on sale April 10.
“With such an extraordinary line up of guests, performers and hosts on the way, we can now give fans access to something most people never get to be a part of,” said MTV's executive producer Ean Thorley.
“This is the first time MTV Australia have sold tickets to the public and we intend to deliver a spectacular international music event to celebrate that.”
Meanwhile, leading the charge for MTV Australia gongs is SexyBack singer Justin Timberlake who dominates with six nominations, while Pink herself follows with five nominations.
Standout local artists Eskimo Joe and Wolfmother will go head-to-head for best group, while Adelaide hip-hop masters Hilltop Hoods sit alongside Eminem and Snoop Dogg in the best hip-hop video category.
Voting for the awards can be done via the Australian MTV website or by mobile phone SMS.
Music lovers can cast their vote from March 1, with lines closing on April 28.
