Lavigne to rock up the Logies

Canadian punk rock starlet Avril Lavigne is the first major international act to have signed up to perform at this year's Logie awards.
After James Blunt performed his saccharine hit You're Beautiful at last year's award show, the news Lavigne has agreed to perform is the latest move in a push by organisers to attract a younger demographic to Australian television's night of nights.
Lavigne's song Girlfriend is currently No.3 in the Australian singles chart and her performance will be part of an Australian visit to promote her third album The Best Damn Thing.
Known for her tween emo rock ballads, Lavigne has sold more than 26 million albums worldwide and been nominated for eight Grammies.
TV Week editor Emma Nolan said other performers would also have a youth focus, with already announced British chart-topper James Morrison and 2006 Australian Idol Damien Leith set to play at the Logies.
"We're thrilled that an international star like Avril will be performing on the night," she said.
"This year's Logies is shaping up to be the best show of the past five years."
The Logie awards will be held on Sunday May 6 at Crown Casino and will be televised on the Nine Network.
