~~~~~Hello, I am home More sad news tonight Indi wasn't there It was a late withdrawal so there had to be quick change of plans and arrangements. Kevin, Eric and Damien were the 'boys' on show. Firstly though, once again Diana Rouvas was the lead in act and she performed Stay again. I thought she sounded better tonight than last night. OK, back to Damien. Having been to few of the concerts in this current tour, the Keys and STRINGS tour I really missed Indi. She has never played better than she is on this current tour. I don't think the audience would have missed her as much as those who have been to a current concert and realise her value with the various songs. All the songs sounded terrific and it was good to see Kevin pick up the tin whistle for Remember June. It would have been devestating not to have had that. I also missed the lovely violin lead in to Beautiful. That has been a lovely addition to what was already a beautiful song. Also the fiddle with the Irish jigs and Wicked Game. However, if you didn't know about them or hadn't heard them before then you wouldn't miss what you didn't know about and Kevin was fantastic with the bodhran drum and he took part in most of the night. Kevin even managed to get Damien to play the bodhran. He happened to have a spare one there. Dmien was really good at it too although he was sweating profusely at the end of the song. Apparently Damien didn't know it was going to happen so it added an element of 'ad libbing'. OK............................set list Remember June To Get To You (with the big long NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO). x lots ;D Catch The Wind Beautiful Unordinary World Ride On Annie's Song Wicked Game Interval Unchained Melody Crying Message to My Girl WOULDN'T CHANGE A THING Fields of Athenry Rocky Road to Dublin Wild Drover ?? Rover - with Damien going flat out on the Bodhran Drum Guitar Man and then full Stairway to Heaven Danny Boy Everybody's Talking ENCORE Hallelujah There was no Goodnight tonight but tht was one of the songs that was a casualty of Indi not being there. Damien mentioned the table and ladies at the front. Fortunately he didn't call for Security as he has been known to do in the past He also mentioned that some had travelled from Melbourne and that there were a couple that were at the concert last night also who requested that he play Wouldn't Change a Thing tonight because the Melbourne girls hadn't heard it live. He also mentioned that it was played on Domestic Blitz last weekend and as he listened to it he thought that he should be adding it to the setlist. Last night when we were talking to Damien and requesting WCAT for tonight he mentioned that when he is not feeling well it is hard to do some songs because of the falsetto and the strain on his voice. He is trying to preserve his voice so THANK YOU Damien for singing it tonight. As much as I was hoping you would do it I was lening more toward you not doing it. I was watching Krissy while you were singing it and she was totally rapt, you really made her night with just that one song. Of course, I don't need to tell you that Carla was pretty much under the table when Message to My Girl was played. She was As soon as the intro started I nudged Carla and said this is for you Damien is aware of how much Carla likes that song. The big NOOOOOOO in To Get To You was done for our benefit too and received a mighty applause from several people besides us. I was thinking of Womby when Guitar Man was being played. It was sad that she was unable to make it tonight and she loves that song. It was lovely seeing MaggieMay, Spud, Mash, Nuffy and MrNuffy, Kazza, Michele, Carla and of course our travellers Princey, Di and Krissy. Eils and the boys were there too. You could hear them calling out to Daddy through the show. It was cute not annoying. We didn't expect to see Damien after the show, knowing that he has a busy day tomorrow today, but George came out and told us not to go. We had already been requested by Security to leve the auditorium and George went and told him that we could stay. Thank you George Damien came out not long after and we managed to get a group pic, also found out that he is judging the floats for the St Patricks Day Parade at 10.30 before he has to dash off to the airport for his plane to Ireland mid afternoon. He is due back at the end of next week. There will be more information in C&A, but for now, that is all from me. Others will be able to fill in other details - wardrobe report...... Which reminds me, hed wore a TShirt just for us. Shims, you MUST be sitting down when photos from tonight are posted. I think Di and Kazza will have the best ones.
It was really cool that we got to see/hear Damien playing the bodhrán! ;D Braffy, that song was called Wild Rover (I just looked it up). I have uploaded it here if anyone wants to hear it: Wild Rover (with D on the bodhrán)The people at the table next to us told Damien that they preferred Kevin on the bodhrán , but then they were like, "Oh, but you're alright too, Damien." It was so nice of Damien to come out and have a little chat with us all afterwards. ;D He gave us all a hug and a kiss (my first kiss from Damien ever! ), and he brought Jarvis out with him too, so I was talking to him for a bit. Message To My Girl was a nice suprise - I've never heard it live before. I really enjoyed the Irish songs, especially Ride On, because I had never heard those before either (well, I'd heard them in Di's videos, but not live ). LOVED all the RJ songs (obviously), especially TGTY with the big "nooooo" and WCAT! Oh, and I love that version of Unordinary World on piano! And unlike Braffy, I didn't mind Beautiful without Indi, just for a change. I mean, I do like the version with Indi, but I also enjoyed it without her. It's a beautiful song either way. Another highlight for me (as usual) was Hallelujah (and Sleepwalk). Damien mentioned that they recorded it the other day to release with FF. I always love hearing Eric on guitar, especially in Hallelujah. It was a shame that Goodnight was left out. I think D was just trying to escape while he could, as some of the people on the table next to us kept telling him he had to take his jacket off (otherwise they wouldn't buy his single : . When D came back on after the "wee wee" break, Jarvis and Jagger called out "HI DAD!" And every so often throughout the show they were calling out to him and throwing their glow sticks in the air. So cute. At the start of the show when D mentioned that the boys were up the back, Eric said, "Yeah, and Jarvis wants his shirt back". D explained that they'd been joking that Damien was wearing one of his son's t-shirts because the shirt was so small, but that it was actually his own t-shirt and the reason it was small was because he frequently gets requests to show more chest hair, so he decided to do so , and also because he had been working out so his shirt didn't fit properly anymore. Hmm what else? Oh, I quite liked Diana's version of Stay, but prefer Damien's, of course. Still, nice to hear a song from Remember June sung by someone else. ;D D made the usual jokes about the mankini (he explained what it was for those who didn't know ), and the boxer shorts, and Kevin also mentioned the stud pills. And D said he was the national stud. I think he also said that Jarvis and Jagger had tried on the mankini. The jokes and stories seemed to be all new for this tour and also less planned, so that made things interesting and enjoyable. Except for the "I've been working out" thing ... that's possibly a little old. :-\ My mum said she thinks most people (especially guys) would prefer it if that sort of stuff was left out ... I dunno. :-\)They were playing the TGTY video on screens all around the club. it was the first thing I heard when I walked in. Was funtarstic to see everyone again and to finally meet Kris! I had an awesome night. ;D
Looks like everyone had a fantastic night, wow sounds like it was a great one! So sorry you couldn't be there Womby Lovely reading that Eils and the boys were there, would have been very cute hearing the little voices calling out. A shame Indi wasn't there but great that Kevin was, and fantastic that Damien also had a go on the bodhran! So glad you got to hear Message to My Girl for the first time Spud, would have loved to have heard it along with Catch the Wind, the setlist sounds fabulous and great to see Wouldn't Change a Thing on there as well! Ah really sweet reading that was your first kiss from Damien, Spud Thanks for the stories of all how it went, Braffy, Spud & Michele! Sounds like it was definitely a top night!
The stars must have been shining for me to be able to get to the show on Saturday. We managed to get to a wonderful table to ourselves and had a perfect view of Damien and even the other girls on their table. Sorry Braffy, I didn't see you waving when we arrived as we were still probably working out our seats knowing that Damien would be playing very soon. When Eric and Kevin came out I thought, ooh, this'll be interesting with the bodhran but wondered when Indi would come out... Well we go the answer to that a little later. I did miss Indi's contribution but even still... with the drum, I still found the acoustic combination of the two guitars or Eric's guitar and Damien's piano playing still very effective and complete. In fact, I really thought that the addition of the percussion to the show was excellent for most of the songs. Only once or twice I thought it should've been toned down or perhaps even phased in or or out during parts of a couple of songs. Um, I wish at this point that I'd written down for which songs! But overall, a great addition. Yet, Damien's voice is so emotive and multidimensional it's almost as if other instruments are playing along with him anyway, sometimes. What a wonderful range Damien has and such smooth transitions between his falsetto and middle/lower register I was surprised and so very happy to hear him sing Wouldn't Change a Thing last night I don't think I've heard it since the launch concert of Remember June and it was wonderful. Thanks to it's appearance in this week's Domestic Blitz tv show, Damien thought he should include it in the set - I hope he does for all the other shows too! Other highlights for me were Beautiful of course!! I'm such a sucker for the romantic ballads especially when I'm with hubby!. Ah, when we're listening to Damien sing we're like two koalas Lol. Fields of Athenry was just fabulous tonight - so ethereal. I don't know if without the violin Damien does the song more together, without instrumental solos, or something? But I liked this version better than from the Marconi show. I missed Indi's violin intro for Beautiful but the song with Eric's guitar solo-intro then Damien's piano intro was still mesmerising. And Message to My Girl Lol I'm wearing that smiley out I think! Unordinary World is fantastic acoustically too! Wow. I just love it. I wonder why they don't do the arrangement with Eric singing the quiet "hey-hey... hey" parts in the background? I really love that part on the album. siiiigh... So many more lovely moments in the show which came to an end far too soon for me (not that Damien didn't do enough songs!) I could just lean against my man and be serenaded by my 'other' man ... so what if the other one's wife is in the same room? ... heehee not to mention his kids! aw, the boys and friend were having a fantastic time in the back. You could certainly hear everything they were saying and doing while their dad was singing throughout the first half but by most of the second half I guess they had finally run out of steam so we could just fall into the spell of just Damien's voice in the darkness the boys were so cute taht they loved seeing their dad up on the stage and saying hello to them Lots of Catch the Wind songs were played for this appreciative audience. Dear oh dear though... the audience-singing probably wasn't up to the quality of the Mean Fiddler (from what I've read) - quite a lot of shy ones at Revesby that night so just as well Damien didn't push as hard. That's not to say there weren't any squeaks coming from my table or the front one! I hope this isn't the last show for me, this tour with some extra there may still be Dee Why Even if there isn't, I'm so happy I went to this show at Revesby.
Womby and Trilly, I'm sorry you couldn't make it for this show, after all. It was so nice to catch up with the Melbourne girls Princess, Di and Krissy as well as Braffy, Spud, Mash, Carla, Kazza, Michele and MaggieMay during the breaks and for the Hut afterwards. Princess, I still think it's amazing that you could have gotten up at 3am and still look so fresh at midnight! Thank goodness for the cafe being open Unlike other clubs, you can still get a real coffee and supper after the show!
