I still cannot believe I had that notebook upside down!!! I'm sure I checked!!!
Ok, TAKE 2!
SET-LIST - MARCONI 26th FEB 2010
FIRST SET Remember June *aaaaaaaah*
To Get To You (and big Noooooooooooooo!
)
- Intro mentioning did anyone go to Day on the Green and Ronan's arms
and Damien's keeping his under wraps in his jacket for now, he's been working out
(woooh from Rowdy Damienites)
Beautiful on keys
Unordinary World on keys
+ Irish Instrumental (I've heard the Corrs do this one but can't think now what it is?!)
Edit: - checked my Corrs album "Forgiven Not Forgotten" and the instrumental is
"Along With the Girls" Ride On - OMG...
Damien, right up there for me with Christy Moore if not even better. This was just divine, one of the highlights of the non-originals for me - and yes, Kildare is certainly well known for studs
Annie's Song *aaaaaaaah*
Guitar Man *thought of womby
*
Wicked Game - plus Irish Dancing
Now, I'm not sure what kind of school Damien went to, but it sounded a lot more fun than mine!! All these kissing games and walls etc etc. We never had Kiss and Catch at our school -
or was that Catch and Kiss - we were just lucky if the boys didn't try to shove us out of their playground so they could play football!
Interval - there were no signings at this show but signed copies of the album were available at the table. Indi's new b/f was taking care of sales tonight, seems like a lovely guy! There's a competition on the table where 2 signed copies of the new novel are available to win at each show, that was exciting to see!
SECOND SET If Tomorrow Never Comes -
Unchained Melody Fields of Athenry (OMG gorgeous - I am used to this in rowdy environs and singalongs when it's also fantastic but Marconi was a quiet listening sort of audience, and so it was just pure Damien, Indi and Eric - another highlight - all the sadness and beauty of the lyric shone out - aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah loved it.)
Rocky Road to Dublin (Irish Rap
)
lots of fun before this one - Damien said for us not to tell anyone if he got the lyrics wrong as it's such a hard song. Eric piped in that he couldn't understand a word Damien was singing anyway, all diddly-dee
I love this, especially the 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 bit (Tina, and all others with a Damien-counting
fetish predilection - this one goes
to 5 - be advised and anticipate delightedly
)
April Sun in Cuba!!
Now this was a big surprise one - and lol this was ERIC!
Eric started playing it for fun and Damien said he wasn't familiar with the song! No one could believe it, and Indi started humming it and Eric played some more - nope, Damien hadn't heard this one! So Damien urged on Eric to do it and he did! Full version! Was fantastic and all the while Damien cracking up not believing how everyone in the room knew it but him
Danny Boy - Divine.... always have, always will love Damien doing this - I think I went off into another realm mid way - beautiful!
Toss the Feathers (Instrumental)
22 Steps love the acoustic version and Eric also got into it with the electric guitar as well for the solo - fantastic!
Everybody's Talking Lol this one was a lot of fun, the sing-a-long bits ended up a trainwreck, Damien was cracking up laughing, we were cracking up laughing, and then he was cracking up again.
Goodnight - on keys
Stunning!
ENCORE
See You Again!! Yay!! Damien said Eric got him to do this one - and it was on keys!! Just fantastic, Damien is playing beautifully btw, he really seems to love keyboards and has a beautiful touch on them. Damien sang it the
fun way of course - and a couple of Rowdy Damienites
down the front belted out with him - "No time for sex,
like now!!!"
At the end Damien did a little organ sound keyboard solo to finish and said it was the first time anyone had heard it - sounded really cool and atmospheric!
Hallelujah ahhhh you could hear a pin drop - was just as beautiful as always and this time Damien went to the most amazing high note at the end I've never heard him do before -
just incredible!!!
So there you go!! Was such a beautiful show, the sound was spot on fantastic - Indi credited the sound guy working there who she said is brilliant and she also said later that it was one of her favourite shows she's performed as far as the sound.
It was a fairly restrained but appreciative audience. I don't think many knew some of the Irish songs so you don't get the great sing-a-longs you get at Irish venues but I loved them and this was a chance to hear them for their pure music value because the crowd was listening, and I totally enjoyed the entire show. Really wanted to turn around and do it all again. I love the full band shows so much but the keys and strings show is equally fantastic musically, just in a different way.
After the show we stayed for a little while in the auditorium and were lucky to see Damien, Eils and the boys as well as Indi and Eric before they all headed off and we headed for our Hut. Was a wonderful wonderful night with great music and beautiful friends, thanks so much everyone, can't wait to do it again!!
