It's on page 13 of today's SUN HEARLD: IDOL ASPIRANTS: QUEUE HERE FOR STARDOM Pic of Damien with one of this year's Idol aspirants at yesterday's Sydney auditions. Quote from Damo: "I was in their position last year and I get a sinking feeling looking at this queue because you don't know what you are walking into........". Good for Damien, coming along to support those auditioning! It'll take a lot to top the greatest Aussie Idol of them all! Kyle Sandilands: not happy about this year's standard of talent. Those with scanners might care to upload this!

Here is the Heralds one. Idol aspirants: queue here for stardomLast year's winner Damien Leith with Idol hopefuls Johnny Neto and Melissa Minichini. Photo: Danielle SmithRachel Browne May 20, 2007 THERE may be only one Australian Idol but more than 2000 singers were convinced it could be them as they queued up to strut their stuff yesterday. Goths, grunge fans and rock gods lined up alongside pop princesses and soul divas at Australian Technology Park for the first day of Australian Idol's Sydney auditions yesterday. The auditions mark the end of a nationwide search for Australia's best singer, or at least the one who will sell a lot of CDs for record company Sony BMG. Kylie Whitney, 24, of Loftus, said she was not taking the auditions too seriously. "I am just here to have fun," she said. "I have sung in pubs and clubs but I had a baby two years ago so I'm starting to get back into it now." However, 29-year-old Dean Magee saw yesterday's audition as his last chance to break into the music industry as the contest only accepts singers aged between 16 and 31. "I went to the Melbourne audition but I buggered it up so I flew up to Sydney to give it another shot," he said. Damien Leith, last year's winner, said he empathised with the aspirants. "I was in their position last year and I get a sinking feeling looking at this queue because you don't know what you are walking into," he said.Kyle Sandilands, a judge on the Channel 10 show, has a sinking feeling about the standard of talent this year. "I hate the auditions," he said. "I know it's necessary but I hate the goons. Some are really funny and some are really tragic. . . . They think we're just saying no to be mean. At the end of the day, it's not 'Pity Idol'. They have to be able to do the fundamentals." The new series of Australian Idol will premiere on Channel 10 mid-year. Source: The Sun-Herald

That's great Damien went along. I feel so sorry for this years Idols though, because none of them could ever match up to the standard of Damien. As we all know, he is simply the best! I'm worried that I won't be able to cope with watching Australian Idol this year now. Seriously though, I do hope there is some good talent in amongst them all. I presume they are allowed to take their own instruments to auditions again this year, and if so, hopefully that will drag out a few of the more talented artists out there.

Thank you for posting these articles! ;D I tried to be open-minded, but I find Kyle a "4-letter word starting with "C"" Re: Damo's "school-boy" look. Can't say I'm finding it very becoming on him. It looks like he should be out behind the bicycle shed smoking fags or something. I think Damien's talent was an anomaly and we won't get anything like that this year. Please prove me wrong, but i'm not all that worried about it either.

I think we'll get a lot of Damien imitators this year, and there'll be more older performers too. ;)Will anyone surpass the high standard Damo set last year? I doubt it!

I wish he took Mark Wilkinson along with him! But Mark said he didn't want to audition.. :-\
ANYWAY! Good on Damo! He's a star in so many ways. To take time out so he can go say some words of encouragement is just awesome ;D
