Here's a very long radio interview with Brisbane's 4BC Walter Williams, uploaded a couple of days ago. I haven't timed it but I think it goes for nearly an hour! (about 20 minutes about AI alone! Damien isn't in the studio so it's a phone interview.
Here are a few notes as i listened to it in case you haven't much time to listen (lol we doit anyway, don't we?). Just a shame that the link only provides the smallest tracking bar which makes it so hard to replay or find a section to listen to

Enjoy!

Starts pretty funnily with dicussions of Duran Duran and how Damien's planning some facial growth... maybe?? Lol "Why not?" [D's answer is both & ]
Then Irish & Australian accents... family talk about the kids
Then onto lots of chat about his history and interests - his African experiences - interesting obscure stuff about Leif and Releif and even how Revelate formed... being a pharmacist. "Do you find yourself dumbing that down? (This knowledge?)"... what a good question and of course he so humbly answered that one by talking about his siblings achievements. Nice to hear about Darren joining the upcoming tour too.
Next onto the Idol journey... He actually says that he didn't think he's get past the intitial auditionsand actually entered just to prove to his friends that he wouldn't get through!!
A nice touch with this podcast is that they play Damien's "Crying" in the middle.
Did you see yourself as a dark horse early in the competition... in Australian Idol?
"No, I didn't. I had no expectations. I really just went into the competition saying to myself 'just do your best and see how it goes. what will be will be... i wasn't comptetitive... I was pretty relaxed about it ... I was in it and just doing my own thing. It wasn't until towards the end that I started getting serious about it"
[Definitely a winning attitude he is sticking to with DWTS ]
Advice to older comptitors of these types of competitions?
"Enter it with a good spirit... be yourself...enjoy the experience and all the things just happen as a result.. the audience appreciate when people are just themselves. You can't be anything you're not. The audience see right through that."
[hmmmm... no mention of DWTS at this point? ]
Only a brief chat about Roy - initiated by Damien!
Are you a Renaissance Man, Damien Leith?... because you've also put pen to paper...
some discussion about the writing projects and the next book
Which is the song/album(?) you're most proud of?
"It's hard to choose... on Where We Land it's Beautiful because I wrote it for my wife. And on Roy it's She's a Mystery to Me".
... then they play "Mystery"
[Aw, I'm surprised he didn't mention Remember June at this point. ]
Interview segment: On the couch with Damien Leith (quick short Q & A's) [as usual, considered and honest answers here ]
Your first memory?
First girlfriend?
Your first wage packet and what did you have to do to earn it?
First success on stage?
First disaster on stage?
If you could have a super power, what would it be?
Can you describe yourself in 3 words?... (Oh no! That's a hard one!)
If they made a movie about you, who would play you?
Are you a morning person or a night person?
A quirky habit of yours?
which way's the toilet roll at your place? [dumb couple of Q's her ]
What secret skill do you have that's no longer secret after tonight?
Where' the strangest place you've been recognised?

What a long interview! I'm surprised that Damien's latest album Roy was only talked about briefly compared to the AI talk... though they did play the two songs Also sadly, no mention of him dancing in the Dancing with the Stars competion... and doing brilliantly!... so they can vote for him??
But I guess the listening audience who know about his participation would really see how his positive and determined attitude hasn't changed at all from the Idol days. What a level-headed and really likeable guy with loads of talent!
I'm so glad success hasn't gone to his head! (he'd have such a sore neck by now! ;D)
