Our Idol snub February 20, 2007 12:15am www.news.com.au/adelaidenow/story/0,22606,21253002-31624,00.html AUSTRALIAN Idol - where is the love? Remember a while back, 2006 winner Damien Leith said he was going to perform a couple of shows during a break in his recording, but Adelaide wasn't on the list? We were told it wasn't personal. Apparently he's coming as part of his national tour, but didn't have any other time to fit Adelaide in. OK. Fine. So what's the deal with Jessica Mauboy? The 2006 Idol runner-up appears to have snubbed us too. To promote her upcoming CD, The Journey, Jess is doing a heap of in-store performances in Darwin (fair enough it's her home town), Gold Coast, Sydney, Melbourne and . . nope, that's it. No Adelaide. The fact Idol rates higher in South Australia than it does in any other state seems to be overlooked. Not happy Jess.

Not unusual Adelaide not on a lot of artists radars --- but we have the fringe and WOMAD so not a lot of time for many others at the moment...........

Oh, and I didn't mean 'Go Adelaide' as in 'Go and have a D & J bash!', I meant, Hooray for Adelaide - it's a lovely place!

I love Adelaide. I used to visit it all the time when I was a tour guide. Like it better than Melbourne. *hides from flying objects thrown by Melbourne tarts*

If Adelaide thinks they have it bad, what about poor Perth, eh?

I must admit that I was quite upset that Damien seems to be so focussed on the east coast which seem to have an abundance of dates. I know its probably not his fault, but it just seems another part of the east coast mentality that nothing else exists. We love Damien too and just want to be part of what the majority of fans on here that seem to have the opportunity to see him live. Where I live, we think nothing of driving 1000 kms round trip when we need to.

I would at this point like to give some words of encouragement to those not on the East Coast or are in country areas - I really know how it feels to be a fan isolated from where all the fuss is happening - it was like that as a Billy Boyd fan (Lord of the Rings) - FIVE YEARS of reading about other fan encounters/premiere/conventions - only it was the United States!!!! And a few things in Europe. Nothing at all for the Aussies. Now he is playing in a band in Scotland. I have practically given up on Billy and time has waned my enthusiasm. It was tough and I was heartbroken, but all I can say is it WILL happen for you guys real soon with Damien - you won't have the angst for that long, that's for sure!! Here's to the new album national tour

Well said, Selestial. Think of Damien's international fans outside of Ireland. When are they ever likely to see him? Even getting the CD is difficult for them. I know it's hard for everyone outside of the East Coast to keep reading about our encounters. Hopefully, the tour for the album will be more comprehensive.
