ARIA Celebrates Number Ones by Andrew Tijs - March 1 2007 undercover.com.au/News-Story.aspx?id=1658At a ceremony in Sydney, ARIA celebrated the Australian artists that topped the charts in the last year. From December 2005 to December 2006 ARIA notes that Australian artists topped the singles, album and DVD charts for a total of 41 weeks. Good to see that we're supporting homegrown talent. Less reassuring is that for eleven weeks within that year, the singles chart was headed up by pre-fab Australian Idol debuts from Damien Leith, Kate DeAraugo and Lee Harding. Also recognised as chart-toppers were Motown boy band Human Nature, who scored two number one albums with 'Dancing In The Streets' and 'Reach Out'. And TV Rock had the longest standing number one single with their profound club hit 'Flaunt It' spending five weeks at the pointy end. Other album chart, number ones came from the more legitimate side of the fence including efforts from Eskimo Joe, The Living End, Something For Kate and Kasey Chambers. Billy Birmingham was honoured once again for his seventh consecutive number one album 'Boned'. Australian DVDs to top the charts came from Kylie Minogue, Crowded House and John Farnham.
