You're going to be bouncing off the walls by the time I see you tomorrow night Deb!! We've had months and months of dry weather and now there's a forecast for a few showers tomorrow - let's hope they amount to nothing!

Thanks for all the well wishes for the night, we did have a great time!!! It was a magnificent setting, and true to Perth form the forecast showers did not materialise and it was a perfect evening with a gentle breeze! Deb got there REALLY early and plonked her picnic blanket at the front, a decent 3m from the stage, and being early managed to be present for the soundcheck and a little chat with Damien, but I'll leave her to fill you in on that. He said he would have to leave straight away at the end and would not have time for a meet and greet, so she felt lucky to have her few moments pre show, while also telling Damien how disappointed I would be! The crowd started coming in, but strangely instead of people filling up from the front going backwards, they put down their picnic blankets and chairs, filling up the back rows first and moving forward. This was a private gig at a ritzy yacht club in Applecross, so I can only assume this is how it is done here. The outcome of that was that the crowd never quite made it to Deb's rug, so when we reclaimed our rug and seats there was about 2m between ourselves and the crowd, leaving us on a little island between the crowd and the stage! Most peculiar, but hey, we had a great view!!! Damien and the full band came onto the stage, walking up the steps at the front left side of the stage just before 8 and launched into a great set of Roy classics. Setlist: You Got It Only the Lonely Sweet Dreams Love Hurts Working for the Man Beautiful Everybody's talking I'll be Your Baby Tonight (great deliciously slow rendition, just realised this is a Bob Dylan original) Leah Running Scared Rocky Road to Dublin Mean Woman Blues Crying Handle me with Care 'encore' Pretty Woman Hallelujah When you write it down, it looks like a long list, but it felt like the night was over too soon, of course!!

Damien said it was too far to go off stage to wait for the encore (as there was no real backstage, they would have to go frontstage and wait), so they all turned their backs and said if we wanted more we would have to ask for it. Which of course the crowd did and they followed up with Pretty Woman & Hallelujah. When he started singing Mean Woman Blues, about four ladies came forward to the right of us and started dancing, Crying kind of put an end to that, although they stood there swaying in a row, then when Handle Me With Care came on another ten or so people joined in... I kept prodding Deb saying, come on, come on, but she was videoing (which I probably ruined by my prodding : and said she just wanted to sit and gaze, so when Pretty Woman was on I could hold back no longer and jumped up and joined my new friends!! It was great, I think the first time there has been dancing at a Damien concert that I have been to, and I thoroughly enjoyed it! I think Damien and the band enjoyed it to, as he remarked on the dancers a few times Hallelujah sent us back to our seats as it is not really a dance number, but when they launched into their fairwell music, people jumped up again.... I think this could of gone on for ages if time allowed! During this last farewell set, I said to Deb, lets get up and dance to the left of us, where there was a small group and where the exit stairs just happened to be, so I thought I might be able to get in a quick hug or a hi 5 as Damien left the stage. As it happened, he ran on by, Deb grabbed him to give him a gift and he said "I've got to go, see you in a minute" and ran off. We looked at each other and said, "did he just say see you in a minute?" We agreed that he had and we hadn't been dreaming it, and waited around deciding what to do while the crowd slowly cleared out. After about 5 minutes the band came out and started packing up. Cesar came over to us and said "is one of you Tina?" and said when he has packed up, he will take us out the back to see Damien! We were so excited, ran off for a quick toilet/beautifing minute then came back, for Cesar to lead us out to a small back room where Damien was hanging out with the band. He was ready to be whisked off, so we had a precious few minutes of chat, hugs and photos, once again reminding us how kind Damien is to his fans! We asked a bit about the album, but it is very hush hush about what is on it. He said it is not country, and it's also not acoustic, despite the pic on the cover. He only gave one clue to the content and that was one of the orignals he sang on the night will be re-released in a new version! No need for more details on that I'm sure!! He will be touring in September, and is really excited about the new album. We asked why he didn't mention the new album tonight, and he said there was no need and as a corporate gig he didn't feel right about it. He also said if you get a google alert about being able to download the album, don't worry, you can't. I think that was about all, Deb might have remembered something else. He was very sweet about saying thanks for coming to the gig, knowing that I live in Mandurah he asked if I was staying over or driving home now, but I assured him it was less than an hour home and not a problem! He is very sweet to be concerned about us! Oh, we also got an invite to Kiki's first birthday, but since it's in Sydney, I think it's a safe bet that we won't turn up!! Though Deb is very determined..... Overall, a fab night at a beautiful location! I enjoyed hearing all the Roy classics again, I loved Damien's rendition of I'll Be Your Baby Tonight, dancing was great fun and saying hi to Damien was of course the icing on the cake! The only downside was that the music was not mixed well, and when the full band was playing loudly, you could barely hear Damien's voice which was a big shame! The crowd loved him and were left wanting more!

The night view These were only taken with my iPhone, Deb had a much better camera so will no doubt have been photos of the night. Enjoy! ;D
