STARS SUPPORT $2.2 MILLION TELETHON TARGET
LIVE MONDAY, JUNE 11, 9.00AM-4.30PM ON CHANNEL NINE
Channel Nine will broadcast the Gold Week Telethon in aid of the Sydney Children’s Hospital LIVE next Monday from 9.00am to 5.30pm.
The telethon will be hosted by Nine’s favourite personalities including Karl Stefanovic, Lisa Wilkinson, Ben Fordham, Deb Knight, Leila McKinnon, Tim Gilbert, Peter Overton, Ken Sutcliffe and Amber Sherlock, with live crosses to Sydney Children’s Hospital throughout the day.
Last year’s telethon raised $1.68 million for the hospital, thanks to the generosity of the community and the major partners. The money went towards numerous services and equipment including the construction of a new Childhood Cancer Research Centre, the purchase of a new heart and lung machine, and a clinical trial studying relapsed neuroblastoma patients (a form of childhood cancer).
This year the telethon target is raising $2.2 million to support essential equipment, services and research at Sydney Children’s Hospital.
During the day, our hosts will be chatting LIVE to The Voice coaches – Keith Urban, Joel Madden, Seal and Delta Goodrem. And some of Australia’s top artists will perform live on the telethon, including Ricki-Lee Coulter, Jack Vidgen, Damien Leith and Tim Freedman.
A host of familiar faces, including Channel Nine stars and sports stars, will support the appeal by taking donations on the phone: Catriona Rowntree, Tracy Grimshaw, Jaynie Seal, Jesinta Campbell, The Block contestants Brad, Lara, Andrew and Mike, House Husbands stars Julia Morris and Anna McGahan, Gigi Edgley and Kip Gamblin from Tricky Business, and former test cricketers Brett Lee and Michael Slater.

Sometimes things just feel like fate I'd just arrived at the gate lounge, waiting for my flight home from Sydney when I heard a familiar , gorgeous voice behind me. I looked up and there was D singing" Beautiful" on the TV telethon. I smiled at DH and listened intently- what a lovely performance! Absolutely heartfelt, with Chris and Cesar accompanying him. Hope it helps to raise lots of money for this worthy cause. WTG, D.

I taped the show and watched later in the day and Damien also sang "HERE COMES THE SUN" and he sang it superbly.
Really loved the tone in his voice with this and it was better than Beautiful IMO.
Probably about 40 minutes after singing Beautiful at a very rough guess.

We had a family day indoors with the tv on for the telethon in the background and saw Damien's two songs, they were within the hour of each other as Brian says. Sydney Children's Hospital Foundation also tweeted when he came on the second time and they put up some lovely pics: /photo/1 /photo/1 Beautiful and Here Comes the Sun were just gorgeous, loved them both. Here Comes the Sun was a nice touch with all the pouring rain, Damien definitely brings the sunshine with him the kids up the back of the studio were all up on their feet clapping along, was fantastic to see how much cheer he brought to everyone For Beautiful Damien changed it a little to a way we've heard him sing sometimes where he goes down an octave at the "so taken, so easy" part** - really love that change it seems to give even more warmth to the song and somehow mellows it in a reflective moment before soaring up again, tells the story beautifully in a different way. (**I think that's what he's doing but just guessing by ear, so not sure, there might be a key change in there too) I heard later on the news that it was really good for the telethon that it was such a rainy day yesterday as so many more people stayed indoors and were watching, they achieved a great total Was a great show all round, just fantastic Damien was part of it for the Children's Hospital and great to see Cesar and Chris with him for the songs, they all sounded great

Article in the Daily Telegraph to go with the event: www.dailytelegraph.com.au/news/million-has-been-pledged-for-the-sydney-childrens-hospital-during-todays-gold-week-telethon/story-e6freuy9-1226390487272
$2.2 million has been pledged for the Sydney Children's Hospital during today's Gold Week telethon
Carleen Frost The Daily Telegraph June 11, 2012
THE Sydney Children's Hospital has just reached its target of $2.2 million in donations for the annual Gold Week telethon.
A $100,000 donation from special guest Nicole Kidman helped smash the target at about 3.30pm this afternoon.
Kidman, an ambassador for the hospital, said she had visited the Randwick centre several times and was always astounded at the strength show by its young patients.
"They are fighting so hard and their families are fighting to keep their family together," she said.
The morning has included performances from former Australian Idol stars Ricki-Lee Coulter and Damien Leith, who said the hospital needed all the support Sydney could muster.
"I have done a lot of work with the Sydney Children's Hospital over the last six years so I have got to see first hand all the work that they do and they really need to keep it going - it's an incredible hospital," Leith told the Daily Telegraph.
"And I'm a dad as well, if something happened to my kids I'd like to know that there was enough money to keep things going."
A string of celebrities and sporting stars have spent the morning manning the phones including Olympians Geoff Huegill and Melinda Gainsford-Taylor as well as television personalities Catriona Rowntree and Gigi Edgley.
Tricky Business star Kip Gamblin said those ringing in to pledge donations had been very generous.
"It's great to be able to support people in need," he said.
They do so much good work at the hospital.
"Both my kids have been in there at some stage and the staff were just great."
High praise that doesn't sit well with the humble Helen Bullot, the head nurse of the babies and toddlers ward at Sydney Children's Hospital.
She's been doing this job for 27 years. It is as much a testament to Ms Bullot's dedication as it is to the working environment that has kept her coming back day after day.
"The hospital is at the forefront of care for children, such a comfort when you are caring for a sick child, but I have also been fortunate to work with some great doctors and nurses," Ms Bullot said.
Ms Bullot and her team are just one of the reasons the hospital is calling for donations.
