PHIL BLATCH NOW and Then was the perfect concept album for Damien Leith. The Petersham singer got to combine his two loves: writing music, the Now side, and Roy Orbison representing Then. After last year's successful cover album Roy, Leith turned his attention to the Traveling Wilburys, a super group made up of Orbison, Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Jeff Lynne and Tom Petty. Leith put his own spin on classic songs like Here Comes The Sun, Got My Mind Set On You and I'll Be Your Baby Tonight. "We branched away from the originals thinking if I wrote the song, this is how I would record it," he said. The album showcases Leith's skills as a world-class troubadour and balladeer, saying the Now side was important. "For me, I got into the whole business to do my own songs," he said. "I love covering songs but I write all the time, that's what the big drive for me is." Now and Then was recorded in Nash-ville and Sydney, with producer and co-writer Stuart Crichton in Sydney and Marti Frederiksen in Nashville.
