Damien and the band were fantastic
I was very concerned because sales for the show were very slow and I mentioned it to Damien yesterday but he wasn't worried because at Festivals like this where there are lots of events on and most sales happen on the day
I am pleased to say that it was a pretty full house and they loved him and lots of CD's were sold (including Remember June) I kept Promoting that to all that would listen. It actually sold out. I also encouraged them to buy some of the other CD's.
Damien looked very dapper with a red and grey check shirt and painted on black jeans.
Now for the set list.............
You've Got It
Only the Lonely
Damien then mentioned all the babies that had been born over the last year or so and he said that he was wanting to try something new for the new year and Eric piped up and said golf lessons to make you a better golfer. Damien laughed and said he want ot run a marathon and I think he has the New York Marathon in mind.
Working For the Man
In Dreams
Damien mentioned how someone had contacted him via Facebook and chastised him for singing rap on a Roy Orbison tribute album.
Sweet Dreams Baby (minus the rap)
End of the Line
Told the story of how Beautiful came about and the worldwide deal with Estee Lauder
Beautiful
Leah
Spoke about the songwriter that wrote a lot of songs with Roy Orbison Joe Mehlson (wrong spelling but it is late...)
He mentioned he and Joe have written quite a few songs together and they have weekly Skype writing sessions and that Damien has been over to Nashville several times.
Running Scared. I jumped out of my chair at the end of this song. That final note was sooooo good and it was a promise that I made, so I kept my promise
Mentioned the latest album was Now & Then and it followed on from the ROY album by being Traveling Wilburys and George Harrison
Here Comes The Sun
Spoke of Bob Dylan and what he thought of him when he was younger but grew to like his songs when he was more into music as a teenager. How difficult it was to choose one of his songs for Now & Then
I'll Be Your Baby Tonight.
Damien then noticed Smiley who waas sitting over on the other side to where we were and the big smile that he gave her was so lovely to see. ;D Apparently he didn't know she was going to be there. My friend noticed it and you would almost think it was Eileen that was sitting there.
Crying
I've Got A Woman (Mean Women Blues)
Handle With Care.
They then left the stage with people wanting more, more, more.
They came back on and did a great version of ..
Pretty Woman
Hallelujah.
The crowd loved it. Massive standing ovations.
My friend's hubby was not well so she offered his ticket to another friend who also happens to be a singer from Tamworth and she is performing at 10 or more events over the course of the Festival.
She had finished a show late this afternoon so she was available to come.
She loved it and I have noticed on her Facebook page how she is now converted.
Last year when Damien was on in Tamworth we were at a gig involving this singer and she knew we would be leaving her show half way though. When we got up to leave she stopped singing her song and said goodbye to us and then told her audience that we were leaving because we were going to the Damien Leith show and how lucky we were because she would have loved to have gone herself.
Tonight she had that chance.
Unfortunately for her she has 4 gig/functions on tomorrow the first one at 9 am.
I digress. She bought Remember June. She is also a songwriter and has also written a song about Beaconsfield so I told her that Stay on the RJ album is Damien's song about Beaconsfield.
It's lovely to know that another singer/songwriter has fallen under Damien's spell.
Sorry for the lack of smilies but if I used them I would be filing the page up, it was such a great show.
Thank you Damien, Eric, Chris, Steve and Cesar.
