First time I read this one, I thought it was a different Boulavard Tavern. Been to this one for lunch a few times and noted that they often have national performers there (Daryl Braithwaite is the first that pops to mind, but I know there are lots of others). I will def. be at this one ;D

Rang the venue, as they were only saying tickets at the door. Spoke to the Events Coordinator. She said she had never heard of Damien Leith .Well she'll do a great job of promoting the show, won't she Now, this is just me thinking out loud... When Damien played to sold out theatres 1000+ on the ROY tour, I think I even said on here that I thought that was the end of the intimate shows. I thought that style of show would continue and we would no longer get the up close & personal stuff. But loyalty in the entertainment/ music industry is hard to find. When sales were poor in the lead up to the NOW & THEN theatre shows, I thought, where are all the people who came to the ROY shows. They gave standing ovations and said "Damn, this guy is good" but why are they not lined up for the next one? (not enough publicity ) Anyway, here we are, back to pub gigs . My concern is that the often seen demographic at Damien shows are not into "pub gigs". Just to clarify, in WA we do not have RSL clubs, which to my understanding seem to have a very wide demographic and are quite accepted as a going out venue for, say age 40+ . Here in Perth, a pub is a pub! Yes, a modern pub serves a good meal but that is all the over 40's might go there for (we don't have Pokies!). I am thinking that we (that's what I'll call D's audience) would probably not go to see Damien in a pub, (if we even saw any promo's for it) if it were more than 10km's from home, or if we didn't know the venue ( A pub like this is much smaller than an RSL, so is really only known to a much more localised group of people) . I still cringe at the memory of a Nov 2010 pub show in Perth. Damien did 4 shows in 4 days, plus Telethon and finished with a sunday session at an inner suburban trendy pub. There were about 40 people there . I felt so bad for him, and for me, coz I introduced about 6 Damien virgins at that show and it was a bit of a fizzer (of course D still did a great job). The worst thing was that it was a day light show, so you couldn't even turn the lights down and pretend there was a crowd. I am so worried that the usual crowd on a Saturday night at this pub is 25-35, and usually watch a local pub band for free. So will they pay to see Damien, if no, will the people who like to see Damien dare to venture about 35 mins north of the city to a pub they don't know? As I have mentioned this pub does have occassional gigs from more high profile artists so I am really hoping that this will help with sales. I'll be there . "we" would generally prefer a theatre show or dinner and show, far mor sophisticated than a pub . Remember, this is me thinking out loud

Deb, in the original post it says tickets $25 or $30 at the door, so they must be available somewhere. Lack of airplay/ TV appearances/ publicity all add to people not knowing. Maybe, being a local and having local friends you could mention it on Facebook or Twitter. That is what I do with the shows coming up. It really needs to be retweeted or Shared on Facebook, cause most of my 'followers' are DLO people anyway. I think you had better send the events coordinator some Youtube links of Damien. That is terrible for her to say that over the phone. I too wonder where those people are that were at the ROY shows. I never heard a bad comment only good ones and like you people were amazed and didn't realize how good he is. Maybe you can request your local radio station to play some of his songs (good luck on that ) Sometimes too, if I am at the Supermarket and the cashier says 'how are you today' I will say, extremely excited because I am seeing Damien Leith next month (I just bought the tickets) or next week and I am working out what to wear, or tonight and you should come along. He does great shows and I always get great value for my ticket. That sort of thing. I don't know if it works, but at least you may have made some people find out that he is on or going to be on that didn't already know. I hope that people buy the tickets and go. The dinner shows are quite expensive though and that can turn some people off. I was astounded that the Lizotte's show that I went to was at lunchtime and cost $110 and other than Damien singing (beautifully) we only got the main as the meal. We had to purchase entrees or dessert if we wanted them. My ticket was my early Mothers Day present but sheesh, that was very pricey. Word of mouth Deb, go for it.

I will start by saying that it is so much easier to write a report at 2am in the morning when you arrive home from a show, all hyped up and in raptures about everything. It's now Monday arvo and I'm feeling oh so down that it was over so quickly It is now difficult to put "that" feeling into my writing, but I will try. The private room at the hotel holds about 200 people and the guy at the door said it was an almost a full house. It was a younger crowd than Mandurah and a more mixed age group. Inside there was a couple of lounges, a few bar tables and lots of footstool type ottomans which people sat on at the front , that was a bit different. We raced for a bar table just off to the side a bit and I moved it a bit closer before anyone could notice! Di sat on a footstool up against the stage and off to the side. The crowd was a bit noisier and didn't wait for an invitation to sing along and were quite vocal all singing along in songs like Only the Lonely, Tomorrow never Comes & Danny Boy. After 3 nights you know you've heard all the jokes before . The first night they're funny, the second night you like it coz it makes everyone else laugh and on the third night, the jokes are so corny, but corny suits Damien so well, he is such a dag!! "SET LUST" UNLESS YOU SAY SO (love this as an opening song) ONLY THE LONELY WOULDN'T CHANGE A THING IF TOMORROW NEVER COMES BEAUTIFUL WICKED GAME (yay, Wicked Game ) ROCKY ROAD.. / apparently THE "DIDDLY I" song is called "LITTLE BEGGARMAN", according to Cesar's setlist DANNY BOY CREEP MAYBE SOMEDAY ( Di's request, which he acknowledged, and she gave him flowers at the end of the song ) I'LL BE YOUR BABY TONIGHT HANDLE WITH CARE EVERYBODY'S TALKING YOU GOT IT LEAH (sighhhhh....) NESSUN DORMA ALL I WANT IS YOU CRYING STRONGER THAN SUPERMAN PRETTY WOMAN HALLELUJAH So six originals tonight, it's getting better. I enjoyed Stronger than Superman tonight. First night I thought the lyrics were a bit corny, but of course I knew it would grow on me . It has an Irish feel to it, and now that I have videoed it, I will listen over & over. Written on the side of Cesar's setlist was "Let me Be your Rescue", which must have been a spare song, but we never heard it all weekend. I am now thinking, I am sure they sang RUN at sometime but I don't have it written down on any of my lists. Oh yeah, Fri night he sang Nessun Dorma, by request straight after Leah, and had a whinge that two a cappella in a row was a bit much but he did it anyway. He must have liked it coz tonight n one requested it, but after Leah, he said "I tell you what I am going to do this song one last time, I'm not going to do it ever again unless I've got an orchestra" and he sang Nessun Dorma again. I only remembered as it is not mentioned on the written setlist, so it was a last minute idea on D's part. After the show he disappeared, George had just a few bits'n'pieces to sell and we asked if he was coming out. I think he came and went while we were in the toilet. The crowd dispersed pretty quickly coz, like last night he doesn't tell the crowd that he will be out to meet them. Anyway, almost everyone had gone and George went to get Damien for us and we had another quickish chat and (impossible to drag Di away ) He said 6-7 months and start touring again, that would work with a Christmas release for the album, although last year the tour for N&T was so far behind the album release, but perhaps he has learnt from that?? Sorry, no shows in Melbourne this time around. Can't think of anything else. On Thurs night he was keen to do the 12km charity run on Sun morning. But on Sat night , he'd thought the better of it . That's the show for now unless I think of anything else

Loving the 6 originals and including RJ gosh would have been to know that LMBYR was on the list but didn't make it (perhaps not suitable for the audience ) So great you got to catch up with Damien too and Di was able to get her request Thank you for the report Deb yes understand as most of mine are written after a trip

Have just caught up properly with the WA gigs reports. Great job, Deb! WTG and glad you had a brilliant time too, Di, ;D even if the travelling is tiring. It sounds as though these shows were very intimate. It's great hearing him responding to requests for his originals, new and old, and throwing in some rarely heard covers, as well as/ alternative to the expected ones. ;D Re "Stronger Than Superman" gotta say I don't disagree with the corny lyrics comment, but somehow Damien gets away with it! It must be his utterly convincing sincerity which gives the song real meaning. Well, if Damien won't be coming to Melbourne on his next tour in the new year, we just have to go and see him elsewhere! That isn't unusual for us s anyway, but I do feel for my fellow citizens who won't get to hear him for a while. Hoping Queensland has a few gigs, they've missed out badly in recent years. C'est la guerre, I guess. Pleased to hear about the new album though! Something to look forward to for Chrissy! Baha, had to laugh about D mentioning the Barbados- Bridgetown FB thing. That was me! Good work, D!
