AWARD-winning multi-instrumentalist and singer Damien Leith has great memories of living in St George and performing in Sutherland Shire.
He recalled his frequent visits to the Brass Monkey, Cronulla, where his next performance dates will be 7pm, tonight and tomorrow, May 9 and 10.
"I've been at the Brass Monkey on many occasions and it's got to be one of my favourite places to play," Leith said.
"The audience and the vibe in the room are always electric.
"Rockdale was my first home when I arrived in Australia in 2003, so it has a very special place in my heart."
Leith, 37, won the Network Ten TV series Australian Idol in 2006 and became an Australian citizen in January 2007.
He was working as an industrial chemist when he was convinced to audition for Australian Idol.
He has sold 750,000 albums, beginning with The Winner's Journey, through his label Sony Music Entertainment.
The Winner's Journey is an apt title for Leith whose own journeys, before coming to Australia, involved trips with his family to Libya and Botswana.
"We travelled around Africa and we experienced so many different cultures and surroundings," he said.
When was the last time Leith visited his family home in county Kildare, Ireland?
"Unfortunately, it's been a few years now" he said. "The last time was for my brother's wedding in 2010. I think I'm overdue for a visit."
Leith is a TV host and and a successful author. His first novel One More Time was released in 2007 followed by Remember June in 2010.
