Combine 22 of Australia’s finest singers with some of Australia’s greatest songs, add in one of the country’s most respected children’s charities and the result is a unique one-off concert event – Variety presents The Great Australian Songbook – proudly sponsored by Rode Microphones.
A glittering array of performers have enlisted for this very special night at the Enmore Theatre on Monday August 12, with all proceeds going to Variety, the children’s charity.
Drum roll please for our performers……….. Angry Anderson, Alex Smith (Moving Pictures), John Paul Young, Wendy Matthews, Shannon Noll, Monica Trapaga, Richard Clapton, Catherine Britt, Glenn Shorrock, Jeff Duff, Damien Leith, Steve Balbi, Doug Parkinson, The Voice’s Simon Meli, Sarah McLeod, Rick Price and many more will take to the stage to perform their favourite Aussie songs.
The night is designed to be a celebration of both singers and songs; a memorable, surprising, fun-filled musical journey through the great Australian songbook, all to aid a very worthy charity.
We don’t want to give too much away, but some of the highly-anticipated song selections include Damien Leith reprising Peter Allen’s beautiful ‘Tenterfield Sadler’, Simon Meli tackling Stevie Wright’s epic ‘Evie’, Jeff Duff making Russell Morris’s ‘The Real Thing’ his own and in a duet set to blow the roof off the Enmore, Angry Anderson and Sarah McLeod ripping up the AC DC classic ‘Highway To Hell’!
Aussie icon John Paul Young, who has been involved with Variety for 15 years and an Ambassador for ten, says the star-studded performers list promises a fantastic evening.
“Variety is the Children’s Charity and the Children are our collective future,” he said. “I was even one myself! Variety is also the Entertainer’s Charity and it is indeed an honour and a pleasure to be involved with so many wonderful Aussie entertainers combining with great Aussie songs to help present the Great Australian Songbook.
“Variety do so much for the children of this country and do a great job of filling in the gaps in care that so often confront the families of children in need. I’m very happy to be a contributor to this event.”
David Small, CEO Variety – the Children’s Charity said: “Founded in the US by Variety Show performers in 1928, Variety – the Children’s Charity shares a long and vibrant history of helping children in need with support from the entertainment industry. Entertainers, and none more so than music artists, are renowned for their generosity in helping children who are seriously ill or live with special needs. Variety and the Great Australian Songbook concert is a celebration of our close relationship and will help raise funds so even more Australian children can be helped.”
With tickets from just $39, don’t miss what promises to be a hugely-entertaining musical evening!
