I don't even have it but I'm reviewing anyway. I've heard it all before through BehindIdol anyway, so it's close enough.

Me too... here it is.... What can one say about Damien Leith's voice that hasn't already been said? Although this is not the eagerly awaited artist debut album (due Feb/Mar 2007), this compilation of Leith's peformances from the tapes of Australian Idol - in the form of a 2 disk CD/DVD set - still manages to satisfy and whet the appetite for more...so much so that it has managed to set new records by selling 4xPlatinum in a mere 9 days! As a taste of what is to come, "The Winners Journey" successfuly manages to convey the incredible range this man is able to produce: showcased here both in his ability to create new and exciting interpretations of old covers as well as produce originals like the Number One Hit Single "Night of My Life". The angry passion of Radiohead's "Creep" is a long way from the operatic tenor of "Nessun Dorma", but Leith manages to nail both equally well. My personal favourite of the covers is the very different arrangement of Chris Isaak's "Wicked Game": the pure lyricism of this amazing falsetto shows to particlarly stunning advantage here. His version of Garth Brooks "Tomorrow Never Comes" takes this song from country to pure sweet poetry, and his version of Crying literally had the Idol audience doing just that.( In fact, Roy Orbison's family were reportedly so impressed by the performance that they contacted Australian Idol and requsted a copy of the tape.) In other tracks...Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah" is transformed from the somewhat profane to the divine by Leith's stunning interpretation, and "Message to My Girl", with its simple accompaniment by Leith himself on the piano, also displays the depth of emotion this incredible voice is able to convey. Finally, lest we think this man is only about Covers, Two of Leith's own songs are featured on this compilation: the haunting "Come to Me" (also featured on the B side of the "Night of My Life" single )and uplifting "Sky". If the standard of these two is any indication at all of what we can expect, Damien Leith indeed has a very bright future as a singer-songwriter. * And he has calves of power*hehehe

I'm with you Ahtobesure. I am going to go out and get yet another one today. If it is as good as that why stop at 3 copies? I looked at posting a review but I can't write like that. Chris, you've set the standard!

You forgot to mention that the sound is a bit dodgy in parts but that's okay because all us idiots already have all the songs on mp3 and only bought the Winners Journey for the DVD anyway...

I just re-read my review... LMAO, I really should've waited until I'd gotten some sleep before I wrote it. Can't wait for everyone else to review.

Oh well, here is my review. I hope it is OK Magical Journey, 21 Dec 2006 Reviewer: thebraff (Sydney, Australia) - See all my reviews This CD takes you through the performances that Damien Leith did on his way to winning the 4th series of Australian Idol in 2006. From contempory rock, haunting ballads through to opera with some original tunes thrown in for good measure you will go on a magical journey of song. You can close your eyes and be swept up in the vocal range. A great collection of tunes that can be played over and over again. Truly a great talent. Ireland's loss and Australia's gain.
