Damien Leith had inspired Roy Orbison’s award-winning songwriter to write again.
Joe Melson, the award-wining songwriter behind some of Roy Orbison’s biggest hits, has co-written two tracks with multi-platinum singer/songwriter Damien Leith.
Melson, who wrote Orbison hits like, Crying and Only The Lonely, has co-written two of the tracks which feature on Damien Leith’s debut Chapter Seven, the independent album Damien Leith released earlier this month.
The iconic writer has come forward and acknowledged he struggled to find inspiration to write music again, until he heard Damien Leith’s voice.
“Very few voices excite me, but I fell in love with Damien’s voice when I heard it. His unique voice inspired me to write again, much in the same way Roy Orbison’s voice inspired me to write. I believe Damien is going to be a big star,” said Joe Melson.
I Can Stop you Crying, the latest focus track from Chapter Seven, is one of the songs co-written by both Damien and Joe. This track the first songs that Joe has released since Roy’s death in 1988, the other being Faith In Me which also features on the album.
Damien and Joe penned, “I Can Stop You Crying” in Nashville and continued to develop the song over Skype once Damien returned to Australia. The pair have developed a beautiful writing partnership where they catch up weekly on Skype for writing sessions.
Damien states, “it’s an incredible honour to work with Joe. I am so blessed to even have met him but to have the opportunity to write songs with Joe is a whole other thing! Joe has become not only a good friend but a mentor. I will be forever grateful for that.”
Chapter Seven is Damien’s seventh album since 2006. The acoustic pop and folk release represents an exciting new direction for the Irish-born Australian. The album is Damien’s first as a producer and also his first as an Independent artist released through Social Family Records.
