Damien will be appearing at this Festival on 26th April, 2014
Join us from Friday 25th April to Sunday 27th April 2014 Koroit comes alive when the Irish Festival comes to town with entertainment and activities for the wee people and the old. Join the friendly folk of Koroit for some traditional and not-so-traditional Irish games, music, dancing, a fabulous street parade and some good craic.
Festival History
The Koroit Irish Festival began in 1997 and was the braichildren of Maurice Molan who at the time was Koroit’s representative on the Moyne Shire Council.
Maurice Molan and a group of close friends began the festival with the first two years held in High Street Koroit. In 1999 the festival moved to its current home in the heart of the town, Commercial Road. The move proved a winner showcasing the towns centre with the Village Green and the Koroit Theatre the main music venues.
In 1998 the festival hosted the Australian Danny Boy Championships for the first time, an event which has become a signature of the festival. The festival prides itself on providing great Irish music and putting Koroit and its proud Irish heritage on show for all to see.
In 2011 an estimated crowd of 2000 came through the gates on the Saturday of the festival to celebrate Koroit’s big day.
About the Festival
The Koroit Irish Festival is a vibrant and exciting celebration of a small town's Irish heritage. Beginning in 1997, the festival was the brainchild of a local group of people who knew Koroit's rich Irish heritage and close knit community should be celebrated and shared with a broader audience. The initial concept has grown into a major inclusion on the south-west's event calendar, with thousands of people travelling from far and wide to experience quality entertainment in a traditional setting. Koroit's rolling green landscape and rich volcanic soil made it a popular choice for Irish immigrants fleeing the Great Potato Famine in their home country and it is these strong Irish roots that have resulted in the entertaining Koroit Irish Festival we see today.
