HE’S an Irishman who first started playing music in family singalongs in the Middle East. Add into the mix a win in Australian Idol 2006 and a successful solo career to boot: meet Damien Leith.
LIVE caught up with the musician ahead of his show at Nelson Bay Diggers on Saturday.
What’s your earliest musical memory?
My earliest musical memory has to be of my father and mother playing a song together – dad on guitar and mam on vocals. My parents have always been my greatest musical influence.
First album you bought?
Bad by Michael Jackson. It was an LP, showing my age ha!
Last album you bought?
Bobby Flynn, Real world. Class album.
Most memorable gig you’ve played?
The State Theatre in Sydney, followed closely by the Enmore Theatre – two iconic places that I dreamed I’d play in one day and when it happened, I felt electric on stage. (

I’m a sucker for Cadbury flakes broken up in a glass of milk, my favourite actor is Bill Murray and one of my ambitions is to compose a movie soundtrack.
