Tullamore next stop for singer
April 16, 2014, 4 a.m.
Damien Leith will perform in Tullamore this Saturday.
Fresh from a mini tour promoting his second single Halfway Heart (from the album Chapter Seven), Damien Leith is looking forward to coming to the Tullamore Irish Festival this Saturday to perform with his band.
Damien has been performing with the same five piece band since before he won Australian Idol in 2006.
He said they have been rehearsing this week, putting together something different for the Festival.
“We want to mix it up a bit and do some nice little Irish numbers as well,” he said.
Damien came to Australia 11 years ago with his Australian born wife, Eileen.
The couple met and married in Ireland and decided to give each other a backpacking holiday as a wedding present.
They ended up in Australia and now have three children, Jarvis (8), Jagger (6) and Kikki (3).
Damien, born in Dublin, grew up in a musical family forming a band with his sister and two brothers in his late teens, playing gigs all over Ireland.
The multi platinum awarded singer-songwriter said success was a long time coming.
“I had been pursuing the whole recording deal for years up until Idol,” Damien said.
Since winning the popular show, he has released seven albums, four of which peaked in the top two of the ARIA Charts, including two at number one.
He has released eight singles and been awarded seven Platinum and one Gold certificate for albums and singles which equates to sales of just over 500,000.
Chapter Seven is Damien’s first independent, all original album recorded at his own studio in Sydney, and he is very proud of it.
Damien has previously been in and around the area, but this will be his first time to Tullamore.
“It’s just brilliant to be invited; the boys and I are really looking forward to it.”
