At the launch of the Festival Damien was interviewed www.kiamaindependent.com.au/story/2549631/damien-leith-to-headline-folk-by-the-sea/?cs=1208There is a video as part of the link Leith headlines folk festival FORMER Australian Idol winner Damien Leith will be the second annual Folk by the Sea headline act. Leith will lead a stellar line-up of 35 artists who will descend on Kiama for the festival, which will run from September 26-28 over six venues and include 70 concerts. “We couldn’t be happier to get a star like Damien here for the festival,” chairman of the organising committee Russell Hannah said at a launch in Kiama on Wednesday. “He has such a wonderful range of songs and since winning Idol eight years ago has continued to build a wide array of work and we really can’t wait to see him on stage.” Leith said he was thrilled to be coming to Kiama. “I’ve just returned from Ireland and you’ll have to excuse me if my ‘Irishness’ has made me even harder to understand,” he joked. “I will be singing some of my favourite songs and also a few Irish Folk songs to celebrate the festival.’ The first video is the opening of the Fesival and halfway through Damien is interviewed. The next 2 are Damien singing. Other national and international acts including Australian legend Mic Conway, Sydney’s Miriam Lieberman and her African-inspired folk, Western Australian Rory Faithfield, Sydney folk punk band The Bottlers and Grammy Award nominee Beth Patterson from New Orleans, who will bring her exciting mix of Celtic and Bayou music to the festival. ARIA Award winner Mic Conway has been delighting music-lovers since the 1970s when he established the iconic Captain Matchbox Whoopee Band and he will perform a ‘circus of comedy, music and magic’ with ukulele champion Phil Donnison. Locals Penny Hartgerink Trio and Joe Mungovan will be joined by Big Erle, Wongawilli, The Con Artists and The Humphries, among many, many more. Another highlight will be VOX FM going ‘Live To The World’ at Saturday afternoon’s concert from 2pm to 4pm from the Norfolk Room at the Kiama Pavilion. It would be so good to go to this on the weekend. I really hope Damien knocks their socks off. Well, actually, I know Damien will plus he will be celebrating a Swans win.
