I'm going to post a little account of my experience at last night's The Parting Glass show I won't post spoilers just in case anyone hasn't seen the show yet.
My dad, mum, sister and I went into Lizotte's and got our booking and had a look at the merch on sale. There was an Irish guy selling it. (He later turned out to be Kevin Kelly) Damien came into the foyer to sign some stuff for some ladies, but then disappeared again.
We went in to the restaurant and ordered our dinner, I got fish and chips, which was lovely. Then my sister and I shared a Churros for dessert. Dad gave us the fairy floss off his dessert, and it was nice, some kind of rose flavour I think it was.
Damien and the band came on at about 9pm and played two songs, one of which was "Without A Fight" then the father in the play came on and said how 'shite' the band were and that he could make more music with his 'arse' than that band could
There were many funny parts in the play, especially the Red Tractor joke plus plenty of emotional scenes. What I really liked was that Damien never let it get too heavy, the father would always lighten the mood with a joke or another crazy story.
The high notes Damien sang in "Wicked Game" would have had to have been heard to be believed. (Although many of you probably have had the pleasure, hehe) Damien closed the show with a beautiful encore of "Hallelujah" and then they said that they would be out to sign autographs after the show.
My mum, sister and I all got our Songs From Ireland cd liners signed and then I got my copy of "One More Time" signed. I told Damien how much I'd enjoyed reading it and Eric said "Can you just give me a basic run-down of what happens?" and Damien went "He hasn't read it yet!". Then we lined up for a photo and while we were deciding where to stand and who would take the photo (a lovely lady, whom I don't know, but it turned out perfect) I got to stand with my arm around Damien's shoulders (and his around mine ).
After the photo, my wonderful little sister, Beccie, asked Damien if he could give me a cuddle, to which Damien replied; "A cuddle? Sure! Cuddles all 'round!" and pulled me into a super squeezy hug with a little shake and he did that "Rrraaa" hug noise and laughed He then thanked us all for coming.
We didn't get home and in bed until about 1 in the morning but it was the best experience and I am in teh coma

Join the clan Julie... nothing like a Damien hug to put you in the clouds! It is an amazing show isn't it? So different from a straight concert, and so very, very entertaining. He is a man of many talents. I just wish the whole world could see it. What did your parents say about it? Were they impressed? Thanks for the great report, you did well to not spoil it for anybody else, which I think we all have tried not to do. Brilliant in my eyes! JUST REMEMBER.....YOU NEED TO HAVE RAIN TO GET THE RAINBOW

Thanks Glawz Our parents loved it! They actually want to go to another one. My dad commented on what a huge voice Damien has. They were worried the first time they ever went with me to a Damien show, they knew he'd been on Idol so they thought he'd have tweeny bopper music, but they were pleasantly surprised when they actually heard him

I enjoyed the change from the first time I saw it and Damien was in fine voice and the band super good as usual. Chris is a funny man and he did a Bing Crosby version of Happy Birthday for his wife who was upstairs. My friends really enjoyed the show, 2 had been before, but another had all of Damien's albums but was always away travelling when there was a show at Lizottes (not everyone does the travel to Nelson Bay/Sydney thing ) Was lovely to catch up with Anny, her DH and relatives, also caught up with Hyperrune and Hyper mum Was trying to spot Julie, but didn't seem to find her (next time will ask her table number as she wasn't at the 2 near us. Another lady from the gym was there with her DH and friends and they were absolutely rapt with the show. Found out from Damien that the father doesn't have a name and Martin is an uncle, of course the son's name made sense when dad sang Danny Boy The performers all seemed to be having a great time. Said hi to Jess on the way out and also to Kevin, my friend Marcia told him she'd was tempted to learn to play one. Then caught up with Damien, always gracious with his time and kisses and hugs and I had a couple of photos before giving Eric a big hug too Damien is tickled pink at the resounding success of the show and Marcia mentioned how much she loved the 5 voice acapella If you haven't seen the show, do try to get there

And so he should be thrilled Dawn... it's a wonderful achievement for Damien, to write and act in your own play, as well as perform the songs so beautifully is yet another feather in his cap. So glad the reviews have been so good, I have only seen the two which were excellent. I want everybody to see it... really hope he will do the rounds again after he's been to the WA and SA (probably next year) I think Damien has a way of bringing everybody over to him, Mr Velvet voice, and such an endearing personality. It's great that you can entice your folks to go to shows with you Julie, and no wonder they love him too! At least you can play his music at home without the parents going "Turn that off!!!" Ditto Glawz! I think it is amazing that all ages (kids and Parents) can come together and actually enjoy the same music. When does this ever happen . I think your report captured this in a nut shell Catchie. It is funny it made me remember Idol of 9 yrs ago now....when my Mum was watching it with me. She said 'boy that guy can sing'. Mum and I were on the same page with our music....there you go!
Hope you are still in the coma Catchie and Dawn.......don't come down for a while!

Oh well Anny, I guess if Ron doesn't want to go again you just go with somebody else. It's disheartening that he doesn't love your idol as much as you do. I would have had to kick your aunt in the shins Anny, how rude!! Why bother going if you're not going to pay attention.
Ooh, now I'm worried about taking Nev!! I really don't think there'll be any problem though as he LOVES the Irish Album. I haven't told him much about the script, just that D plays the part of the father and it's a play within a concert. He's coming to Crown as well as Launceston so really hope he likes it. Will report back after Friday night!!

Oh dear Anny, what a shame about the Aunt. I'm sure she didn't even consider that folks had paid to hear Damien.....not her Never mind, Ron will probably go to a concert another time when it's not mostly Irish....anyway, you've always got me Thanks for the report Anny always interesting to hear of other perspectives

Thanks for the report Anny. What a shame about Aunt....It would have been tempting to kick her shins. When you go to a show any show....you have to switch the outside world off. Shame about Ron too. He will enjoy another show another time. That is why it is always great hanging out with like minded people ......who get it! Us D nuts are united and would always have a good time at a show . Need to hang out with us Anny . Great to read your report Anny....love hearing about the shows. Will be some excitement in Melbourne this week. I can hear Glawz squeeing from here.

Loved reading all the stories, thanks for posting them Catchie, Anny & Dawn! I hope the next time you see the show will be more enjoyable for you Anny, sometimes the stars just don't align but it's all sure to be wonderful again for you another time. Hope you're still enjoying your cuddle coma Catchie Lol about Eric not having read the book and wanting a rundown It was interesting to see the Lucky Country show just before we set off to see the Ryde show, as a result we ended up chatting with Damien about Yowies which is something I wouldn't have ever anticipated, lol
