Oh if only they had let him re-record it in the studio *sob* If only...*joins in sobs* You know, if they made all the other idols do an album within two weeks, why didn't they get Damo to rerecord all the tunes he did on idol in the two week period? Ditto...this is actually what I thought he was going to do...wouldn't that in itself be one helluva fine album. Sound is definately dodgy on the WJ...but...hey...the voice is still sublime

I think the sound quality on parts of the CD is pretty awful - I'm no expert but I'd like to hear an explanation as to why it sounds so bad.
Two of Damien's finest efforts, Hallelujah and Wicked Game, suffer a lot - the start of Wicked Game is just so quiet and then the bass comes in much louder and swamps everything. With Hallelujah - somehow they have managed to ruin the beginning and end of the song completely - my mp3s from the show have a better sound quality than this - not sure what they were trying to do but I think they failed. Also, on Wicked Game, isn't the Winners Journey version missing some backing vocals??
Creep is very flat compared to the mp3 version.
And yes, like others I find I'm constantly having to adjust the volume on the car stereo.
It's interesting that there's no such problem with the DVD sound - what problems are unique to CD that they were trying to rectify with all the remastering? Why not just use the same sound recording for the CD - after all, the Winners Journey is live Idol songs - the CD buyer would prefer to have a bit of crowd noise included rather than screw up the sound this badly, right?
It's interesting that there's no problem from Nessum Dorma onwards (chronologically) - at that point did they finally start recording the songs with a view to transferring to CD?

And yes, agree - if you're going to mess with the remastering this much - just get Damien into a studio and record new full length versions of the songs sung on Idol (except Celebration, of course!) - put that on to a CD and include the DVD of all his live performances (and include the judges comments for each as one of the bonus features), make sure you include the audition and You are so Beautiful, and tah dah!! you have an absolutely awesome collection.

Thank goodness they got the sound right on "Nessun Dorma", because that moves me to tears every time I hear Damien reach those high notes. ;D I hope he maybe does a couple of full length versions of the Idol songs, like "Crying" and "Wicked Game" for the debut CD.

Seano, you said exactly what I have been thinking and wanted to post but wasn't sure where. Why, if it is called the "Winners Journey" they don't start at the beginning and finish at the end. I would love to see the auditions and each round up until the final 12 plus comments and then through to the announcement and singing the Winners Song. So what if we get a couple of songs twice (Night of My Life, Nessun Dorma etc). That was his journey.

I don't know if this has happened to anyone else, but the sound quality on the cd files are a bit... well terrible! i can hear echoes, microphone difficulties and weird fading in the sound, sometimes its loud, sometimes its soft. Anybody experience the same thing??

I don't think so. Tomorrow I will try it in every possible cd playing device I can find. I've already played it in 3 different players and there all bad.

OK, I played the whole CD on my stereo last night! Overall impression: the sound quality isn't 100% perfect, but it's not too bad. The one thing I don't like is the echo effect they've put on Damien's vocals for a few songs(Crying, Wicked Game and MTMG)! - a bit too much audio trickery from the sound engineers!
