What a beautiful way to start the day(even though I have tears in my eyes). Thank you so much Shims for your photos and recaps. I put on my alarm an hour early this morning so I could and read about last night *I am so so lame*.
So excited with wanting to hear about the backstage stories. Next Friday seems so very far away for D to come to Brisbane.

Shimmery, thank you very much for the report & the great pics! Of course Damien was brilliant, the man is a terrific live performer. Have the other tarts come home yet? Is there any chance Damien might release a live DVD of the concerts?

What can I say, that hasn't already been said? We were close enough to rest our cameras and drinks on the stage. They made us move the drinks, though. Damien wisely never came past the speakers, thus avoiding tempting the tarts in the front row to do something silly. We were probably too close for the best sound, but it was great because we could hear his foot tapping to the beat, especially when it was just him and the guitar. His voice was just............. Great meeting up with new faces and seeing others again. I can hardly wait for tonight, but no drinking afterwards this time. Photos are in the other thread.

**** SPOILER ALERT ***** the following comments refers to songs sung in the show.
Damien opened with Wicked Game - sung off stage (all you could hear was The Voice sounding strong and clear). Then he walked on from the back and was handed the guitar as he came up to the mike. Great way to start the show.
Then there was a countryrock version of If Tomorrow Never Comes (full length) which was really really good - the mix was rocking yet preserved the lyrical style he sang on the show.
Next was Message To My Girl - he didn't play piano, he sang it solo, it was rocked up and much more Crowded House style than the Enzo (NZ Symphony Orchestra/Split Enz) version he did on the show.
Then Crying. Well, really, that was pretty much as good as you would expect. Nah, probably better, particularly the last .... few .... notes..... *sigh*. He channels Roy Orbison very well, don't you think? Ha
Then the new song You are So Beautiful (which I think because it could be confused with the Joe Cocker number which D acknowledge, I reckon should just be called Beautiful). Quite rocking as well. Might need to hear it a few more times. No Song for Jarvis last night which was a shame, cos I think that is a lovely folksy/bluegrass flavoured tune.
Ah, a great great version of Radiohead's High and Dry - no swing sound this time.
Hallelujah was in there -and as he introduced it somebody from the front row to my right called out "Hallelujah!!!" which made him laugh ha. It was lovely voice sounding crisp, guitar work pretty good too.
Then in there was a morphed version of the These Days, which he had on Myspace - but it is just the verses and there is a new chorus that sounds very much like it is a produce of a workshopping with Alex Lloyd. Personally, I preferred the original version, I think the new version is very radio friendly, but has lost some of Damien's distinctive personality in the process.
Now, Waiting On An Angel he explained he had sung at a friend's wedding just near the end of Idol. It was lovely of course, very spare arrangement as he usually does it.
Sky was around about next, but a much more rocking version [definitely flavours of Leaf and Revelate with all this rock in the mix which is great way of balancing out the other solo/pared back songs in the set].
With or without you got everybody up on their feet and into the aisles with some competitions going on between left and right of stage.
Unchained melody - full version - made many a woman and "men who appreciate music" [tankuMarcia] feel warm and fuzzy.
Night of My Life - well, everyone sure knew the words of this song! And thus ended the set .....
BUT NO - Wait there's MORE
Damo then came back on stage just with a microphone and no backing music and channelled Puccini ....
and sang Nessun Dorma, the synthesiser coming in about half way thru. It too was lovely although.... I thought it was just too rushed. I was at the Opera House and it just knocked everyone over - I think he was pretty tired by this stage of the night (perhaps physically and possibly vocally) and so I guess doing a more traditional slower version might have been too much of a strain. Ok, so i take back that criticism! LOL
Then I think the last song was You are So Beautiful, holding on to the rose thrown onstage by admirers to the left of him. By that stage everyone was standing and clapping along and cheering.
Hope that was a fair enough review. I'll be interested to see how he mixes it up again tonight.
Edit - Oops! I forgot to mention he also sang Come to Me as an acoustic/rocking version. That was cool.

I wonder if the Sydney Morning Herald or Daily Telegraph newspapers in Sydney will feature a concert review? Interestingly, Snow Patrol got a very negative review the other day from the SMH critic.

Thanks for the reports - I am really looking forward to tonight - I think the last live concert of this nature that I went to was about 15 years ago so I think tonight is going to be very special.

KAMI...Crushangel found out that he is doing a second performance in Tasmania in a church. Damien didn't know the details so maybe you could follow it up. GWAH!!!!!!! Scored the water bottle! Go Braffy! Ah, it's great hearing everyone's different accounts of how the night went. It really means a lot.

The mix was mainly female but quite a number of males as well - they were some young kids 5-8 yo and some teen-twenties and then it ranged right up to 50-60's so he is very popular among a huge range of people.
