I'm putting this in this thread because I think it is a very funny interview, also to let you know that you can actually bet on The Chaser winning Most Outstanding Comedy Program [voted by teh industry not TV week readers] at Sportingbet - I've made my bet already, lol. Chasing Logies West Australian
2nd May 2007, 7:00 WST
Love it or hate it, Australian TV’s night of nights, the TV Week Logie Awards, takes place at the Crown Entertainment Complex in Melbourne on Sunday.
Jules Lund (Getaway), LiviniaNixon (Temptation) and Jacki O (Australian Princess) will cover red-carpet arrivals from 7.30pm with the main event telecast from 8pm.
Hosting duties have been split between comedians Dave Hughes and Adam Hills and Sydney radio presenter Fifi Box, who has built her TV profile with regular appearances on Thank God You’re Here and competing in last night’s grand final of Dancing with the Stars.
Radio funnymen Hamish and Andy will take over Hills’ green-room interview duties.
Musical acts will include Avril Lavigne, James Morrison and Australian Idol winner Damien Leith.
No Logies telecast would be complete without some international guests to add “star power” but few have any knowledge of the local industry, as Joan Rivers so candidly admitted last year.
This year’s imports will include NCIS star Michael Weatherly (who has worked in Australia) and Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer cast members Jessica Alba, Michael Chiklis and Ioan Gruffudd. It’s probably a safe bet that one-time couple Weatherly and Alba won’t present together.
Brothers and Sisters star Rachel Griffiths also will be back from the US to present the awards for most outstanding actress and actor; how far she has come since her topless protest when the Crown complex opened a decade ago.
Memorable moments from last year’s Logies included John Wood finally winning the coveted gold after 10 consecutive nominations, Rivers shocking with her potty mouth and Bec and Lleyton Hewitt — in possibly the most cringe-inducing scene of the night — taking baby Mia, wearing an outfit that matched her mum’s, onstage to present an award.
But the unsung star surely was Chas Licciardello from The Chaser’s War on Everything (Wednesdays at 9pm on ABC), who managed to appear on screen 34 times.
Licciardello had accepted a challenge from his Chaser mates to “bonehead” — basically to appear in the back of shots acting like a fool — at least 20 times.
He hugged Wood, went onstage to accept an award with the cast of Blue Water High, got into the green room and ended up dancing onstage — all without attracting the wrath of security.
So who better to ask about what to expect from the 2007 Logies telecast than the bonehead himself?
Are you expecting to be shadowed by security after last year’s antics?
“I hope so — security always provides a great ending to our stunts.”
Are you disappointed at not being invited to host or present at this year’s Logies?
“Yup — I’ve decided to host my own super-elite Alternative Logies at Flinders Street Macca’s. Invitees only need attend.”
What will you be wearing to the Logies?
“I’ve got a great new design from a little-known designer called Best and Less. I’m expecting big things from him in future.”
If you were a woman, what would you be wearing to the Logies? “Chris Taylor.”
If you could introduce a new award category, what would it be? Conversely, which category would you drop?
“Surely it’s time we recognised best performance in a Zoot review. And I think we should get rid of most outstanding comedy program — some of the results in recent years have been a genuine concern.” (The Chaser won the category in 2005 for The Chaser Decides, and tied with Kath & Kim in 2004 for CNNNN).
What do you love and hate most about the red-carpet and Logies attire?
“What I love most about red-carpet attire is that no one cares if I don’t wear it. What I hate most is the proximity of Richard Wilkins.”
Who will win Gold? Can sentimental favourite Rove McManus win again or will John Wood make it two in a row despite Blue Heelers being axed and having hardly appeared on TV?
“I’m going for Rachael Carpani (Jodi from McLeod’s Daughters) because I’d love to see the look on everyone’s face if she won.”
What do you think of the international guests including Avril Lavigne and Michael Weatherly?
“I know Avril Lavigne and Michael Weatherly have been long-time supporters of Australian television and I’m sure the audience on Sunday will be just as supportive, right back at them.”
Where’s the best after-Logies party?
“The best post-Logies party would be wherever Peter Meakin is just before he drives.” (Seven’s head of news and current affairs last month pleaded guilty to drink driving).
Why do Australians, particularly the media, tend to treat the Logies with disdain while holding the Oscars and Emmys in such high regard?
“Because Bruce Samazan (former E Street star) has a permanent invite to the Logies.”
Most importantly, who will win or should win the award for most outstanding comedy program?
“I think The Chaser’s War on Everything should win, because it’s all about me.”
