Ahhh, it's not fair. I absolutely love Jeff Buckley and seeing D do a cover of Jeff's songs would be absolutely amazing. If only I lived in Sydney and was over 18. *sigh* I wonder if anyone has heard of So Real by Jeff Buckley but it seems ironic that apart of the lyrics is: "And I couldn't awake from the nightmare that sucked me in and pulled me under pulled me under" And he died drowning. Argh, I'm just rambling on now, he was such a great loss though

Argh, I'm just rambling on now, he was such a great loss though Jenny - So Real is a fantastic song, and from memory Jeff's guitarist came up with the idea for it while they were recording Grace and Jeff did the lyrics very quickly to go with it. The song ended up replacing one of my favourite songs, Forget Her, which was only recently released as part of the Grace Legacy Edition. Apparently Jeff felt Forget Her was too personal to put out there so he went with So Real instead. At the tributes a guy called Matt Anderson normally covers So Real and does an exceptional job - very Buckleyesque. I assume he'll be performing as usual.

Damien Leith Matt Tonks (Matt Tonks & Syd Green), Edoardo Santone (Velvet Fog), Matt Tonks is actually a friend of mine who I got to know after I first discovered him at the Buckley tribute @ The Basement two years ago. The whole night he was playing guitar for most of the singers and I was thoroughly impressed by it - I even said to the friend I was there with that he was so good they should get him to do his own songs! Lo and behold he steps up to the microphone as the final perfomer and just blew me away. It's just him and his guitar, but he uses live looping, so he can build up a really strong, full song. Basically he starts out using the guitar like a drum and creates a rhythm section before adding layers of guitar, and his own backing vocals by howling through the pickup. It's quite incredible to watch, and I think his cover of Dream Brother actually rivals Jeff's. You can hear a copy here if you're interested: www.myspace.com/melvintreeI also discovered Edoardo Santone that same night. He was the opening performer, the room was dark, he stepped up to a candle lit grand piano, and did a very moving rendition of Opened Once. I also saw Damien Leith do Hallelujah at Star City (and may have gotten a sneaky video recording), and Paul Greene do Grace and Last Goodbye at The Basement last year, both of whom were very impressive! This is definitely a night worth going to if you're a Jeff fan at all. It's a shame that it seems Katie Noonan will be absent, but these nights are usually so captivating that I don't think you'll notice.

I think it might be a bit like Bar Me - I don't know whether I'll be flying solo or if a couple mates will show up I've got one friend who's a massive fan of Jeff's, but is tough to get out. Mind you, I felt a bit this way in the lead-up to the one in November and at least half a dozen friends showed up to that one. But I suppose to answer your question, I might do a bit of both. I'm not a Damienite, and I'll probably know a few people scattered around the room, so I think I'll spread myself out. I take it you're not taking the trip?

Do you need the music sold to you or the company? I can sell you both - I'll be there for one, and I can't speak highly enough about the songs or the people performing them!
