this was posted on that site too.
Damien Leith - Australian Pop Idol Winner! Damien Leith is the winner of Australian Pop Idol 2006
Damien Leith is originally from Kildare, where he worked as a chemist. He came from a musical family and was originally in a band called Leaf with his two brothers and sister. After many years of playing with the band and also in a solo capacity he developed his own style and technique.
In 2000 he met his Australian wife Eileen and she became a great influence.
Damien's solo two track demo managed a little interest in the UK and Ireland. In 2003 Eileen and Damien moved to Australia. In mid 2006 in Australia things changed a lot for Damien when he was hanging out with some friends - they suggested rather jokingly that he enter Australian Idol!!
After a lot of hard work and votes from a loyal public vote Damien won the Australian Idol 2006! From here he immediately had a record deal with Sony BMG Australia and it has been a manic and wonderful journey since then..his dream came true after all his hard work.
Australian Success
. His single 'Night of my life' went to number one in Australia . Australian Idol Compilation Album 'The Winners Journey' sold 350,000 in Australia . The Album 'Where we Land' reached the number one spot for 2 weeks in Australia and the album went platinum four times.
Ireland
. The single 'Night of my life' also did well in Ireland and got into a top ten position 2007 . The latest single '22 Steps' was just released on Friday the 14th of September . The Album 'Where we Land' out on the 28th of September
Australian Idol
After much talk from his friends Leith auditioned for the 4th series of Network Ten's Australian Idol along with some 25,000 other contestants!
Leith was selected by the judges as one of the final 24 contestants. He was then chosen in the final top12 as the result of a nationwide viewer vote. He used a beautiful falsetto technique which the judges picked up on.
In the Australian Idol 2006 the contestants were allowed to perform with real instruments. Leith accompanied himself on guitar for his renditions of Isaac's "Wicked Game", Leonard Cohen's "Hallelujah", Alex Lloyd's "Never Meant to Fail" and Ben Harper's "Waiting On an Angel",
