Damien did fantastic with Celebration. What did Mark and Kyle expect?, ITS FREAKIN DISCO HE WASNT JUST GONNA STAND THERE!. There was nothing wrong with it, he sung BRILLIANTLY!, and he got the crowd on there feet, i really enjoy watching it on the dvd, it always gets me dancing And he certainly didnt deserve to be talked to like that by or kyle either Would totally agree KLD...He should have got kudos for "getting otu of his comfort zone" (see previous weeks - inaccurate - commments about 'ballads')...He was obviously nervous about doing something so Out There for him, and he did a great job. He'll only get better & better as he does it more & more as a 2nd encore at his live shows!!! The audience will totally go wild...!! OR...knowing D...he'll slip a chorus of Celebration into an arrangement of some other beautiful song as a total teaser for the audience... Yes!, i also agree with you, being out of his comfort zone and being nervous at the same time, he did do a good job I also really hope that whern he tours, he will just break out into celebration, cause the crowd would go nuts

i think it would be good that when he walks onto the stage at first the celebration music is playing and then he starts singing - just as a crowd warm up

I actually don't think he was that nervous (after watching TWJ about 100 x). I just think he isn't really isn't into disco!! (but then again, who is!!! - sory to disco fans). While I didn't love his performance compared to other D performances, when compared to other AI performances that week, it was really good. What I loved was the energy and the effort to conform to the theme. However, I'll agree with trilly 100%. That slating from the judges certainly changed his perspective on the competition, and we have benefited ever since.

Great idea to do this! RECLAIM Celebration Damien - now you've given the best revenge and don't we love it!!
I said it here at the time and I'll say it now, I enjoyed Celebration - it was kind of crazy, but hey!! I think it was really joyous and D gave it his best in a totally out of character situation.
Celebrate good times... come on!!! Yes Damien, 4 times Platinum Man - success is the best revenge..

At the end of that Sunday night's Idol show, I was so worried Damien might be voted out the next night......what a surprise it was when he didn't make the bottom 3 the following evening. Yes, definitely a turning point for Damien and all of us!

I don't think any of us will ever forget that week - it was the longest Monday ever....

I wasn't surprised when he stayed that week. He would have had sympathy votes + voting fans who threw in a few extra votes out of disgust/concern + other fans motivated to vote out of concern + casual watchers who were won over by the way he handled the whole thing, and so on...
Yeah, Celebration was a real turning point. It really showed off his strength of character as well as his sense of fairness even in the face of injustice.
I really think part of the reason Mark and Kyle were so nasty to him was because they knew he was strong enough to take the criticism (which doesn't make it right or any less hurtful for Damien, but that's our favourite judges for you...) and because they knew it would ensure he stayed for another week. After three years they can't be stupid enough to not realise that the way they carried on was going to have a huge effect on votes.

i'd like to have Damien perform Celebration again, the longest version possible, RIGHT in front of mark, just to watch him suffer.

I think he should do a version of Celebration like Madonna did that Marlena Deitrich version of Like a Virgin, or like Kylie did a cool version of Locomotion in their live concerts. I don't think it was anything that could be called the worst thing i'd seen on TV, but I think D is much better with his guitar and doing more controlled vocals. Good on him for getting out of his comfort zone though. He got everyone up dancing, and he interacted well with the crowd, so good for him. I'm suprised he didn't fiddle with the arrangement like Bobby did with Superfreak - it's weird that he took the evening's theme so literally when he did so many other great arrangements on all the other songs. I listened to SSTBTHW by Elton John and D's version was completely different. It was still a ballad but much more upbeat. Hmmm.

I do not understand why Celebration was roasted so badly by Mark and Kyle. I think they must have woken up on the wrong side of the bed that day.
It was not my favourite performance but it had energy, enthusiasm and the crowd bopping along.
But no way Celebration was the worst performance on television.
