After watching it on the DVD again, I have to wonder why Mark & Kyle were so critical. Honestly, it wasn't that bad a performance. Yes, disco is the genre probably most unsuited to Damien, but he had fun out there, and he got the crowd up and dancing, including me. However, I wish maybe he'd chosen a slower Bee Gees song, something to show off his terrific high notes.  |

Stayin' Alive alright! I love that this Celebration thread has had the most postings on the song appreciation section (apart from Fool) even though it was the one that got the biggest panning. It has clearly had a big impact on a lot of people - both good and bad - and as long as people are talking about it, it's a good thing for D.

I've finally done it! After all this time, I've managed to bring myself to watch Celebration again without wanting to hurt someone..  and Kyle....You know, it ain't that bad..too much, errr, jumping, but it is fun to watch..made me smile ;D |

You know what Trilly - I watched TWJ DVD just the other day (I listen more to the CD in the car) and got to see this one again and WOW! I loved it then, and I still love Celebration - it was kind of crazy, yes - but what shines is Damien's spirit to have a go. It was FUN!! And, I still love it! I hope Damien will do it for fun at the shows, it will bring the house down.  |

I watched Celebration on TWJ today for the first time in a couple of months. It was weird though cos this time when I watched it I didn't find the dancing weird or dorky or anything, in fact I thought it was pretty good. At the end I was like "WHAT A GREAT PERFORMANCE!" ;D He got like the whole room on their feet and I don't know why Mark and Kyle didn't like it, unless they just weren't used to him doing that kind of performance cos his other ones weren't like that. After that I watched High and Dry for more FINGER CLICKING ACTION. ;D That was also an awesome performance by Damo.  |

I must confess that I didn't think that there was anything wrong with the performance in the first place and was quite shocked at the response from Mark and Kyle. I thought that Damien's performance was in keeping with the song style and the shows theme. Their comments really threw me at the time. As you said the audience responded really well. I concluded that his performance wasn't weird or dorky, which the audience also recognised, but that Kyle and Mark and probably other influentials in the music scene, have a very fixed mind set as to what is and isn't 'cool' and can't deviate from that least they lose their own 'street cred.'. Their own image was what the comments were about-in my humble opinion. It was snobbery. *gets off soapbox* ;D |

I totally agree with you chrism. When he sang that song I thought he did a great job getting the audience up and clapping,dancing, having a great time. I, too was floored by the judges comments and thought I must have missed something. It wasn't until i got TWJ and watched it again and knew that there was nothing wrong with me or with Damien. He did that song exactly how it should have and has been done by anyone who does it. They all jump around and so does the audience. GO DAMIEN. JUMP TO IT,.
