I've been playing on the computer my WMP copies of Where We Land - my favourite thing is to make my own playlist with all Damien's other songs from his other 2 albums and single (lol I removed the Christmas ones from the list - till later ) Geeez i luuuurve that playlist!! My actual cd lives in the main car and woe betide anyone who moves it ... About a week ago, I was giving a good friend, John, a lift to the station to return home. His wife had recently died under very tragic circumstances and we'd been helping him out. Anyway, Beautiful started playing and he stopped talking and just said how lovely the song was. I knew he was thinking of her. So, when we pulled up at the train station I (luckily) found the cd case - it was the Christmas edition and it had the other cd inside - and so I gave it to him. John didn't want to take it at first when he noticed it was signed by Damien but I insisted. Only later when I kept thinking about the album i realised how poignant many of the songs would be for John. There are songs of sheer devotion as well as those of the ups and downs of any relationship... then there are the songs of loss and hopefully a message that John will understand is mine to him about how he can reach out to us when he's down. He doesn't have to be alone in his sadness- at least, not all the time. And there are songs for reminiscing. I don't think it's too dark for him - he's a deep and spiritual thinker and so, hopefully, listening to the songs will be constructive for him at this time. Two days ago, while driving John to his wife's funeral my phone rang, with Beautiful as the ring tone. His eyes lit up and he said excitedly they're playing that song on the radio! It was only the first 2 bars of the song and I was so surprised he recognised it. I'm sure he's been listening to the album a lot over that week he's had it cause he loves that song too.

Nuffy, that is a lovely story of friendship, and how a simple act that you did for someone at that sad stage in their life has made such a big difference to them. Your observations about the album and the different types of songs is spot on. Beautiful is such a beautiful song and how appropriate that it came on while you were driving him to his wife's funeral. I hope he has come to terms with his wifes's passing

Thanks Braffy. Yes, he is, but it's so surreal because he was overseas when she died and never got to see her... very complicated. But at least his last memory of her was beautiful. Luckily, John is very focused on her continuing spirit and in celebrating her life. We're doing that at Centennial Park this coming weekend in a memorial for her.

Maybe he will play 'Beautiful" as part of the service. I hope it goes well for you all.

Nuffy, I think D would be pleased to think that his heartfelt songs of love, understanding and friendship have been helpful to someone such as your friend. Thankyou for sharing.

Nuffy by you offering your friend your cd and him listening to some of the songs on it, has probably eased his pain a little of losing someone so dear. Thank-you for sharing your story.

Random question - what would you call 22 Steps? As in, it's not really a cover, and it's not an original (well not one of Damien's originals anyway), so what do you call it?

Well I've always thought of it as a cover, because it's still someone else's song, even though it hasn't been released. I guess rendition works, but I think of rendition and cover as the same thing.
