These are just a VERY few evocative phrases that hit me right from the first hearing. They stand out for me still so I thought it might be fun to hear if others had some highlights also. All the lyrics are absolutely beautiful and I can't stop listening so mostly this is just an excuse to rave on about Damien's originals ;D them so much! AIWIY: "What place steals your heart becomes a home for me.......Lyin' here with me" - "...how it steals the words from me" Beautiful: "I found a path that brings me home and keeps me breathing" - "Nobody knows me like you do and leaves me weak" SLTS: "When the passion s flown" - "When your defenses come down" ISMU: "I'm a shadow on the run waiting for the sun" - "A whisper in the wind..." TLWB: "Lost My Breath Today ...Oh yeah.." (absolutely LOVE this opening! And closing! ) NJFTW: "Walk a million miles through the years of our lives, never alone.." - Gave my heart to a broken dream..faded too easily" BIAA: "You ran away from everything........You never let the good things in" Alone: "Walking this road alone, it's not how it's meant to be" - "Oh this time, this time is for real" CCH: "...and I'm on my knees for you..but you tear my soul apart" I love the covers as well but I am more interested in hearing thoughts about D's originals. Please share. ps: I deliberately left out the titles in the phrase listing as they are all so perfect.

I love the Long Way Back opening too! The one that really gets me is AIWIY : "I fell for a wandering star/ Wasn't meant to be/ Gave my heart to a broken dream/ It faded too easily" That just says to me "no matter what I went through on Idol, how long I languished in obscurity, whatever pitfalls might lie in my career, as long as I can come home to you, nothing else matters." It's so beautiful

The opening and closing of TLWB, definitely.. NJFTW: "My eyes were open at the right time, when you were looking my way" BIAA: "And while I can recall.. What you lost, when you had it all" SLTS: "When your defences come down then I see.. You shine like the sun" AIWIY: "If I lost you, then I... would surely die" , "Now can you see how it steals the words from me?" and... "Heeee, ee, ee, ee, ee, eeee!" (Joke! ) Beautiful: "Nobody knows me like you do and leaves me weak" , "You're all that I know, and all that is true" (And in the original live version I loved "And I don't believe in chance.. We're meant to be where we land..." and "I'd drop it all without a doubt just to be near you" I wish they had left those two in!!) ISMU: "The time that has passed us... The images fade away... Now all that I've got are the thoughts of the past.." , "Like a whisper in the wind.. Takes me back again" Alone: "This thing has taken you away" , "Oh this time, this time is for real" and "Walking this road alone, is not how it has to be, you know I'm there beside you" CCH: "And I'm on my knees for you, but you tear my soul apart"

It's so beautiful Yes Hyper!! That's what I get out of those NJFTW lines too. No matter what, his family will always be first for D. Just beautiful as you say. Also, I wonder if, "Gave my heart to a broken dream, faded too easily", more precisely harks back to earlier times when it all soured in the US for Leaf?

I think so too, there seem to be a few songs about this time and the time between meeting Eileen and moving to Australia wither - I see I Still Miss Us and Shine Like the Sun slotting into this time. Louis Walsh and Mark are jerks, but they indirectly gave us Damien's music, so I suppose we should thank them for that. BTW Hyp, I LOVE your signature! Thanks! I finally got around to making some new stuff! ;D

Yes, lots of lyrics invoke those times. How does Louis Walsh figure into it Hyp? I don't recall his helping but then I forget things way too easily these days.

"Now can you see how it steals the words from me?"
I can just see Damien saying this to Eils SJ. They are incredibly passionate and so REAL. Sometimes one's love is just so deep, it is hard to put into words. Well, that's how it seems to me.

Fool was written for Louis Walsh, he turned Leaf down back in those early days Then on Idol Mark filled Louis' role

My favourite line at the moment is from The Long Way Back - "If I'm lost, well it's a small price to pay." That about sums up my life sometimes. And, in Beautiful - "You shine a light."

Fool was written for Louis Walsh, he turned Leaf down back in those early days Then on Idol Mark filled Louis' role Oh, I knew about Louis turning Leaf down, and that we *thought* Damien wrote Fool about Louis but I didn't know that it was for sure. Didn't 'get' what you meant about Louis helping indirectly in the same was as Mark cuz Mark actually put D through into Idol whereas I think you mean that Louis stirred him on by rejecting him. Or something like that. IS that what you mean? Sorry for being so dense! Thanks Hyp.

I mean Damien was inspired to write Fool after getting turned down ;D Now if only Mark had inspired him to actually release it as a single...maybe in a years' time after he's distanced himself from Idol Off topic, but did Eileen do the backing vocals on Fool? It sounds like it, doesn't it? Which means they could have been in a band together?

It sounds like it, doesn't it? Which means they could have been in a band together? He's never talked about Eils being in a band with him, has he? It may be that she just backed him on a couple of things rather than being in a band. I haven't a clue whether it is her backing him on fool or not. Maybe someone will know though. Good Q for D maybe?
