I've recently been listening to Amazing, The Best Of Alex Lloyd and one track in particular has really caught my attention to the point where it is driving me crazy! It is track 10 on the album and the song is called Lucky Star. I'm convinced that I'm hearing Damien backing Alex Lloyd in this song, particularly in the last minutes of the song. The song finishes with a falsetto that could only be Damien or so my goosebump barometer tells me. From about 2:40 minutes into the song I'm sure it's Damien singing subtly in the background and he is a lot clearer from about 3:15 where he is singing "I want you, I want you..." and finishes with a falsetto. There is no use of a falsetto in any of the other songs on the album. The blurb on the CD sleeve makes no mention of a backing singer on Lucky Star and apparently it was originally recorded in 1999 in the US. Was Damien in the States in 1999 or is this a re-hash of the original? Have a listen and tell me what you think. (1.4MB download). This does sound a lot better on a stereo as opposed to playing it on your computer. www.megaupload.com/?d=UFOSRJ6KMy four year old grandson is also convinced it is Damien. He asked "Who sings the loudest, Damien or his friend?" I recall Damien mentioning he was having a quiet drink with his friends Alex and Alex who talked him into auditioning for Australian Idol. Was one of these friends Alex Lloyd? Damien, if you're reading this would you please confirm or deny that it is you singing on Lucky Star and put my frazzled mind to rest?

Hey myst ..I've had a listen and I don't think it's Damien Sounds like multi-tracked Alex, to me. The falsetto seems to be in Alex's range, too. IMO. What do others think? Like the lyrics. Nice one, Alex.

Yeah Trilly, I thought it was a multi tracked Alex at first but on listening to it over and over, from about 3:15 into the song, the second voice has more of the distinct sound and quality of Damien's voice. Gawd I could be jumping to conclusions here but as I said, it has been driving me crazy.

HEHE...I know that feeling! I'll listen again. I have excellent headphones, really pick up detail..you have me intrigued! However, I think I'll come to the same conclusion. You definitely need D or Alex to deny or confirm!

Thanks gj, I'd be interested to hear what you think. I don't think Alex and Damien sound alike at all even though I suppose they have a similar style. It's just in the last part of this particular song, it definitely sounds like Damien and not Alex.

Gotta say that I can't hear it, Myst.. After a few more listens tonight, I'm fairly convinced it's all Alex, who has quite a high upper register..but nowhere near as good as D's (goes without saying!) ..just to be sure, it's track 10, right? with lyrics about waterfalls?

Thanks Trilly. Yes it is track 10 on the album and the song is called Lucky Star and yep there is mention of a waterfall and also contraceptive rubber bands in the lyrics. It is a great song though and very Beatlesque in parts.

Thanks gj. This song has been driving me crazy as I mentioned earlier and I was of two minds as to whether it was Damien or not but I think I eventually convinced myself (with my daughter's help) that it was. Thanks to both you and Trilly for taking the time to download and listen to it and finally put my mind at rest.

You know, when I posted my first message this afternoon I was hoping that nobody would think I was having a lend of them and Spud did cross my mind with the hilarious things she gets up to.
There was no practical joking with this, I'm serious about it.

Just looked at Alex's website he has actually been in the UK writing etc (just got back I think) and looks like he did a gig of some sort with Chris Issac somewhere also.

I know, myst..puzzles like this always fascinate me too! ;D That song definitely has a touch of ' I Am The Walrus' about it! Slightly OTT but ages ago, Smiley was asking about Reflections Of A Sound, by Silverchair, in the Beatles thread, thinking it sounded Beatlesque too.. I wracked my brains, but I only recently realised it isn't the Beatles it reminds me of..it's The Beach Boys! Very similar to their harmonic structure and rythmns..that's why I like it so much!
