The opera itself happens to be one of my favourite however, I didn't recognise the title, but once he started to sing..... I was away with the fairies!!!!!!! He has mastered all of my favourite songs throughout this series. Just love it, love it, love it. Unchained Melody was my first wedding song. "You are So Beautiful" was my second. So why not throw in an opera and I'll be lining up to buy it!

I would be quite happy if Damien had many varieties of styles on his CD, why was this even a worry during judging tonight? He could even make a double CD for example and play his alternative acoustic style on one disc, his more orchestrated songs on the second disc. There you go Kyle, now that's sorted you can have a good sleep tonight.

Yes, I'd love to hear a recorded version of that song... if that's what he can do with it with only a week's preparation and live, imagine how it would be in a more relaxed studio setting!
I know Damien has his own songs and direction he wants to go in, and I'm looking forward to seeing more of that... but I really do hope he does explore this operatic thing at some point in the future because he's just so brilliant at it. I love the idea of a double disc - I think anything that ensures more tracks is going to appeal to me and many other people!

i am with u on every word hyperrune!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and i know u already mentioned it, BUT MARK MADE DEANS TOUCHDOWN MORE IMPORTANT...WAS THAT SOME KIND OF PLAN 2 GET MORE PPL 2 VITE 4 HIM INSTEAD OF DAMIEN? ??. MARK AT THIS POINT IN TIME, I REALLY DONT LIKE YOU Yeah that was Mark's desperate attempt at getting Dean's vote up...Channel 10 and the judges want Dean at the opera house.

There's a discussion gonig on about the rest of the show in the other thread too, in the Oz Idols discussion forum And yes, all this 'countdown to a touchdown' business as a last word to remember the evening by left me very cold... That left me confused more than anything...Poor Mark is so desperate to save Dean. As much as I would love to see a Damien/Dean final only one of them can be there as Jess will be there no doubt....so I hope if Jess has to stay (BOOOOOOO!!!!!) that Dean is going home tomorrow night. I wish Jess would disappear though, she was crap tonight in my opinion, and every other week lol. She didn't even know what her song was about. Ok I'll stop here I'd rather praise Damien than bag Jess.

What can I say that hasn't already been said? BRAVO DAMIEN. Your performances tonight were absolutely exquisite. When you begin to sing, a hush descends on the audience as you weave your magic once again. Did anyone notice that Damien was the only one who received a standing ovation tonight. When he finished singing Nessun Dorma everyone in the room was on their feet applauding and he also got a standing ovation at my place - twice! ;D Since watching Damien from his first audition I've noticed that his eyes reveal his emotions. Do you remember his audition when Mark made his cruel comment and the hurt and surprise that flashed across Damien's eyes? I don't think I'll ever forget that! To see Damien's face tonight when he finished singing Nessun Dorma was absolutely gorgeous. His eyes seemed to say, "I did it! Take that you a***hole." ;D Well that's what I was thinking anyway ;D I've just listened to Damien singing Unchained Melody again (and again and again and his voice just conveys a deep longing and tears at your heart and that's what this song is all about. What would cranky pants Kyle know about anything. He likes the sound of his own voice, man I wish he had a Delete button! ;D ;D

I just realised I haven't commented on the performances yet. Nessun Dorma....Pure brilliance...vocally this is Damien's best effort so far...learning opera and Italian in one week....what an amazing effort. Best thing I have ever seen on idol....my mum said it was the best thing she has seen on idol too lol....Last week she said Crying was the best thing she had seen on idol....Damien is outdoing himself now lol.
Unchained Melody...simple....beautiful.....Would have preferred a bit more falsetto as I can't get enough of it lol...but it was a great performance regardless....I think it deserved another touchdown.....

Yeah I noticed the standing ovation.....the audience was amazed as they should have been lol.....Damien had the wow factor again tonight...Dean and Jess did not compare again......

Once again Damien brought tears to my eyes. Exquisite indeed. Well done, proud of you. I do worry about this Dean obsession though. Teenyboppers will vote for him regardless of the voice. Lets all make sure that Damien gets plenty of his own, deservedly so once again. Damien I'm designing that art cover for your CD in my head as I hear you sing (see post in other correspondence) Cool! I know I might not get to design the first one...maybe the 10th? ? I could see how proud your wife was of you, rightly so. Keep going my friend, you'll be wearing tux for months and years after all of this. All my friends and I were texting to each other furiously after Kyle and Mark's silly comments. Get real guys! Superb! You are superb...and what taste we all have!

Nessun Dorma, Unchained Melody...absolutely exquisite! *sigh* I couldn't help myself and wept copious tears of utter joy. In all my 57 years I have never been moved in a such a way as when this man sings. Week in, week out his performances are a highlight of my week. Extraordinary talent. Damien has a way of lifting the soul and healing the spirit with his charismatic interpretations and charming personality. His voice is truly divine. It will be a travesty if he isn't at the Opera House (at the very least) . He should win! We shoulda all bought shares in Kleenex, I'm sure their profits must be going through the roof with all us blubbing D fans. heheh We need a hammer KYLE emoticon too now after his comments tonight.

Hi everyone, I agree he was amazing and such a voice, I was so emotional I could not cry as I was stunned. I was sitting one away from Mark Holden and during Damien's performance he had his eyes closed with his arms half way in the air and was on another planet; at that moment I knew D had scored a touchdown.
I have taken a picture and will post it in the next day or so and Damien was on this site yesterday and was amazed by how the membership has grown. He is truly a natural genuine person who is so blown away with the support he has got from you all. We do need to get him to the Opera House so I have been on the phone this morning doing just that. I so want to see him sing next week.
Most people I have spoken to this morning think he was way above the other two talented people and has the best voice in the comp. Will that be enough....God I hope so!

Am I the only one worried about Damien getting through tonight? There seemed such blantant manipulation of the viewers last night. Heck, I was so influenced by them I nearly picked up my phone to vote for Dean myself (I refrained of course) - and if I felt like that, how many others felt the same? *Jess has never been in the bottom three. * Every judge was talking up Dean. * Dean was on last. The viewers would start voting just after hearing his song, his counted-down touchdown, his "top record" chat from Mark. *Damien's Nessun Dorma was on first. Five other songs came after that. What should have been his crowning moment, his equivalent of Prayer, was diluted in the viewer's mind by the time the voting lines were open. * Kyle instantly hosed Damien down - he said Mark only gave a touchdown because he chose the song and then he asked Damien why he "chose" Nessun Dorma. Damien was in a lose/lose situation. He had no choice - if he had wanted to sing something else, he would have been panned for not rising to the challenge. To me it felt a set up. There should have been accolades galore about Damien's bravery in rising to the challenge, unlike the comfortable choices given to the other two. * Much as I love Damien, and at the risk of upsetting everyone here, I thought the first half of unchained melody was a little lame. I couldn't help thinking he gave Nessun Dorma so much that it was difficult to sing again... and he may have been upset by Kyle's remarks. He built unchained melody beautifully towards the end and it, too, was panned by Kyle. I doubt if Mark thought through the implications of song choice (I doubt if he's bright enough ) but I think he may have torpedoed Damien's chances of getting to the Opera House nonetheless. The judge's choices os songs were all FIRST and Damien even said himself that he didn't have much time to prepare for the second song.

oh, and I forgot to say... have you noticed that on idol.oopson.com there are Jess songs and Damien songs to download BUT NOT ONE DEAN song. Now why would that be unless someone thinks Dean is going to win and they don't want to deflate his record sales?

Hey rolypoly - you make some interesting points. I try to steer away from conspiracy theories but there do seem to be a lot of factors that diluted Damiens incredible Nessun Dorma performance. I felt very let down by the end of the show. And I agree about Unchained Melody. He seemed to not have a lot of energy when he sang it. He was note perfect and sweet vocals but lacked punch - I could tell the audience - like me - were waiting for him to king hit them - and he sort of didnt. It was still beautiful and in an ordinary gig situation would be brilliant - but in this wierd "glory moment" world of Australian Idol you only get somewhere if you smack people with a sledge hammer. The show tends to favour belters!! Too subtle Damien!! And yes - I suspect after all the effort he put into Nessun Dorma and the lack of time for Unchained Melody it would be hard to confidently put the second song together as well as he'd liked to have. But having said all that - I still think Unchained Melody was beautiful and the ending was superb! And his Nessun Dorma - *drool*!!!!
