I saw the announcement about the Dean forum a couple of days ago but only now see that this person setting them up has claimed the rights for Jess & Damien as well. I don't really know how I feel about it - esp the founding members here as we've been here from the beginning and to me this is Damien-central. When I read the Dean one I thought the person running it was one of his friends so apparently not. Anyway I was only thinking today I hope we all stay together as I love my Damien-friends  We've had all the journey together and it's been wonderful here! That new Dean club is pretty swish, I checked it out. They have tickets for members to sound checks and special treats for members, so it seems pretty nice. It was just so cool that Damien and Eileen visited us here as here is purely non-commercial and such a great vibe. If we go to both places, would it end up being difficult because we'd all be at different places at different times and the forums wouldn't have the same feeling? I love this forum, but if we're all going to the new place then I want to try to keep us all together, so I'm open to what everyone wants to do. I was hoping as this was the original that this lovely place would be the "Official" one. Oh, if we're all furniture, then I'm the mirror btw, that way I get to see Damien's eyelashes up close (ha ha ha, best furniture of all to be....) |

Not sure what I think about having to pay $30 to join. I didn't think other fan clubs charged anything  Seems too much of a money making thing to me, not that Damiens not worth it but who gets the $30. I think it will discourage a lot of people to join. I don't understand why they need to charge. Sony will be making enough money out of Damien and all the idols and as someone said before isn't that all part of promo's. I've never heard of fans having to pay for promo's. I'm not trying to be a cheapskate, I wouldn't mind if the money went to the idols but if it's going straight to sony/caplice or whoever than I'll be staying here. I don't think it would cost that much for them to set up a website, they do it for everyone else for free so And is that $30 a once off, yearly? Don't know about this, I spose we'll have to wait and see what it's like when it's up and running. I just think they'd wanna give you something for your $30 since most other fans sites are free. Sorry bout the rambling but it just seems they want money for every thing thats got any connection to idol. It would be great if they made this site the official site since you guys have been supporting him right from the start. Only thing is would they let you guys keep running it or take it over and end up charging memberships and making it all commercialized? I love this site because it isn't that way and because everyone here is so nice ;D I'll be sticking around for as long as the site is here so can I be the mic stand? Well I wont be joining the other forum. I dont know who it is thats posting these things but it might be just someone who likes to run fan forums. There are a group of people around who sort of compete to be the moderators of the most fan forums and Idol is wide open for them to jump in on people's sudden fame. They make a hobby of being fan forum moderators whether or not the like the artist. They think it gives them some sort of prestige and the powers that be like them because they are easy to train and manipulate. Its hard to tell from the info we're getting but its something to keep in mind. I'm a little bit of a rebel so I prefer to go with the grass-roots fans of the artist and just visit the "Official Forums" every now and then to see if there's anything worth reading there. It would be different if this forum was invited to become the official forum - then at least it would be clear it's really about the artist and their fans. And there is nothing that stops fans from having their own Unofficial fan clubs and forums (often they are more popular than the official ones) or stopping the artist from postiing wherever they like as far as I know. I'm sticking witchu! So that's my feelings |

Ugh. That's what I thought of when I read that post Flynn - a serial fan forum-ist. It doesn't make much sense otherwise - I like Damien, Dean and Jess and consider myself a fan of each but they are nothing alike and this thing gives me the same twitch I get when I hear Casey and Anthony's different versions of 'Listen With Your Heart' - exactly the same backing, no thought for the artist whatsoever. I guess it's their business to do what they like, but it feels a bit strange to have this appear when a lot of us have been supporting Damien since he first walked into that audition - and we've spent a good deal more than $30 for our obsession too! But I think the winner's fan forums go through this every year and get through it, so it probably won't be so bad. If it was a one-off membership I might be tempted to join, although I would probably prefer to post here where I know just about everybody and it feels more friendly. I think it would be worth at least getting in contact with the people organising this and asking what it means for this place. That thing about 'DeanGeyer.net being an important part' or whatever the guy said sounds promising. At least they seem committed to keeping the fan places running. This club may be a great way to promote Damien, and if it does that then I'm all for it.  |

What you're all saying about the fact that one person seems to have taken this opportunity is what worries me - because who are they anyway? On the front page of the Dean Geyer $30 club they make it sound like Dean is close with the running of it, which was why I assumed it was run by one of his old friends. If that isn't the case....
Maybe it's best if we wait to hear from Damien or Eileen what they want the official club to be. If this other one is blessed by Sony maybe it will be good for the fans because it will offer concert tickets, special Dvds, many things. I just wish that Neski & Murf could have been invited in on the organisation, they started this one, got all Damien's fans to know about this site and invited us here.
I agree though with the point above, that often the "non-official" sites are better, just look at all the artwork done here by people who are not being paid, who just love our little community and want to share. To me, that's worth more than gold.

If you're a mic stand and I'm a mic, that means you can lift me up higher so I can be closer to Damien's lips...!  *faints at the thought* ok, I'm back. Kamitsuki, I only know a bit of Japanese, but I know that word and as great as you are, I don't think you're a god! And Neski - perhaps you could be one of those things you strum a guitar with? I noticed that when Dean writes music, he stops playing the guitar to write and puts that thing (can't remember what it's called!) in his mouth, so perhaps Damien does the same... *goes to naughty corner to revive winterlong* |
