I have a feeling that he is going to steal the show again....Unchained Melody is perfect for him and hopefully he will get a touchdown for this one...I don't know the other song at all so I can't really comment but it's good he is doing another style to show that he is more versatile and if it's opera it's hard to sing so if he can sing this I guess he can sing anything (which we already know anyway lol).....

Unchained Melody is a natural choice. Such a beautiful song and I cant wait to hear him sing it. Nessun Dorma is an awesome Opera piece. I didnt know it by name but found it on YouTube and went OH THAT ONE!! LOL But it's a BIG challenge. Can he do it? If he cant it might be a disaster - but if he nails it... OH MY GOD!!!!!

Holy toledo!! I just accidentally found this vid of Aretha Franklin. Apparently at this live show Pavarotti fell unexpectedly ill and couldnt perform the Nessun Dorma as scheduled - so Aretha stepped in "inpromptu" and performed it instead. Its fantastic. Sorry I know its not Damien - but I figure you lot appreciate brilliant musical moments and great artists so I thought I'd share it. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y9v9Zpd4ulQI'm thinking it will be a magic night on Sunday - I cant wait!!!

If he sings Nessun Dorma here is what it means in English so you will have an idea of what Damien is singing about.
None must sleep! None must sleep! And you, too, Princess, in your cold room, gaze at the stars which tremble with love and hope!
But my mystery is locked within me, no-one shall know my name! No, no, I shall say it as my mouth meets yours when the dawn is breaking!
And my kiss will break the silence which makes you mine!
(No-one shall know his name, and we, alas, shall die!)
Vanish, o night! Fade, stars! At dawn I shall win

Damien singing Unchained Melody!!!!! OMG, Sunday night can't come quick enough!!!!!!!!!!!!! Unchained Melody was actually written by a 16 year old boy, can you believe that? He wrote the words to the song in 1936 but it wasn't released for another 19 years. It was all about unrequited love etc. and they are very moving words to be written by one so young. Read the story here. www.biwa.ne.jp/~presley/elnews-UnchainedMelody.htm

Hi Flynn, Thanks so much for the link. I think Damien will be brilliant singing Nessun Dorma. Whether he sings it all in Italian or as Aretha did, with some English as well will be interesting. Some people are assuming that because Damien is Irish he doesn't know how to speak Italian or that he doesn't know this aria very well. He is a musician/singer/songwriter and I think he would be familiar with Nessun Dorma and not be intimidated by the Italian lyrics. Anthony Callea is of Italian heritage but he admitted that he doesn't speak or understand Italian. That didn't stop him from singing a beautiful rendition of the Prayer. It was the feeling he put into the song that was so mesmerizing and Damien will do the same with Nessun Dorma. I love the last four lines of the aria, "Vanish, o night! Fade, stars! At dawn I shall win" Yeah baby, you shall!

mysterri thanks for those facts re: Unchained Melody! That's amazing that it was written by such a young person. I didn't know it was written back in the 30s but now it makes sense, songs from that era were so well written, they expressed that longing so well. I love the song even more now knowing all this new info

Shimmery, do you know the story behind the song Crying?! OMG it is a heartbreaker! It basically concerns the deaths of Roy Orbison's two little girls when their house was engulfed by fire while Roy was at work. A friend phoned to tell him his house was on fire but Roy didn't get there in time to save his babies.
It's the same with Roy's song In Dreams. Apparently he would dream about his wife and daughters after their deaths. Part of the song goes "In dreams I talk to you, in dreams I walk with you, but just before the dawn, I awake and find you gone......... can't type anymore, I cant see through the tears!
The whole of Roy Orbison's life seemed to be one tragedy after another. So what does he do? Leaves us with the legacy of his beautiful music. Enter Damien Leith. Angels brought him here.

I was a bit worried about this Nessum Dorma until I listened to that link you gave and I think Damien can do this well with a combination of Italian and English and of course he is not Pavarotti but he will be himself with that fabulous voice. I cannot wait until Sunday. Bring it on

Wow! All this information! Thank you all. The story about the guy who wrote unchained melody is fascinating. Poor bloke. And poor us. If his mother hadnt been so - erm - wierd imagine what other great songs we might have had in our world.
ALso, I was struck by the fact that the songs writer preferred Presley's version of the song - because when Damien sang Cryin I felt there was a delicious touch of Presley in some of his lower register. Hmmmm.
I didnt know all that about Roy Orbison. Thats so sad.
I already have a churning tummy over Damien singing Nessun Dorma - dont how I'm gonna cope by Sunday LOL
I hope he's feeling good about it all!!

I woke up this morning with a really good feeling about Sunday night, unusual for me as I'm such a worry-wart where D is concerned Listening to the Aretha version (thank you for the link!), I cant say I love it more than a more traditional version, but it certainly opened my eyes to how something can be interpreted.... D is a clever man...I dont think he is going to try to emulate the worlds best tenors. I think he is going to show us his version of this beautiful song. And teamed with Unchained Melody, I'm thinking its going to be a killer night
