Well hopefully he shines so bright that all those blind teeny bopper Dean fans can see the light There's more to this comp than just looks, and with the voice of an angel Damo is sure to be outstanding yet again

Wouldnt another TWO touchdowns be awesome! I dont think he will get 2 though, but i definitely think he'll get one....maybe for Unchained melody...but maybe for this Opera song- its a real challenge and if he pulls it off it could be like a 'Callea moment' lolz

Ok - here's another version of Nessun Dorma - this time by a fella by the name of Sean O'Reilly (wonder what nationality HE is) done as an acoustic song accompanied by just a piano. www.youtube.com/watch?v=llKwJYRXywgWonder if Damien's seen this. Sean also sings Hallelujah somewhere on YouTube too. Not as good as Damien I'm afraid but ok

Thanks for the link Flynn. After listening to Sean O'Reilly singing Nessun Dorma I have absolutely no doubt in my mind that Damien will bring the house down with this aria. We the audience may not understand the Italian words but Damien will put his heart and soul into this and we will 'feel' what he is singing.
I really don't think that Mark Holden is testing Damien with Nessun Dorma. I think he's realising the full potential of Damien's voice and more probably wants to showcase it.
Can you imagine Mark Holden or any of the judges giving this aria to Dean or Jessica? Absolutely not! Because they just couldn't do it (no disrespect to either of them). Damien can do it and will do it with the same style and grace he has shown us throughout the competition.

I love your take on the choice of Nessun Dorma Mysterri - I agree; I believe Mark for once knows what he's doing with this song choice. I couldn't see any of the others being presented with such a challenge either - it's just not in Dean's style, and while Jess has a great voice she is too young and inexperienced to pull off a classical piece and transcend the language and cultural barrier. It's the perfect way to show off the maturity and experience that make Damien really stand out against the 'young ones' - not to imply that he's old, but it is becoming so obvious he's light years ahead of his competition in terms of emotional maturity! Besides, I can't see Marcia allowing Mark to give Damien something he can't handle. She's a brilliant singer herself and would be able to understand Damien's capabilities more than most.

My point exactly Kamitsuki. We must also bear in mind that tomorrow night will probably be very emotional for the people of Channel 10. Rove's wife, the beautiful Belinda Emmet passed away this morning (I'm still in shock) and the mood may be sombre. Belinda released a CD with Marcia and they were close. Imagine Marcia's emotions as she sits there and listens to Damien sing Nessun Dorma and Unchained Melody. My heart goes out to Rove and their respective families but my heart is also with Damien. He is pure class and will not let us down.

Yes, it's been such a sad day. I remembered that Belinda and Marcia sang together, but it never struck me until now that it's probably going to be very hard for her facing up to the cameras tomorrow with that pain so recent. It's another reason why I can't wait for the show tomorrow - after today I think everyone needs to have those three beautiful people get on stage and sing their hearts out and bring some beauty and happiness back into all our lives. Aside from that I have my own personal reasons why I'm so eager to hear Nessun Dorma - that song was one of my father's favourites, and we played Bocelli's rendition at his funeral. He never got to see all this Idol madness but he would have loved Damien to bits and I really think that, somehow, he's going to watch over the performance tonight and be applauding and spazzing with the rest of us on earth. To hear a singer I've so quickly come to love and admire perform a song that's been with me all my life is a real gift and I know he'll do it justice. Well... enough sap for the moment. I'd better sleep or I'm not going to last until tonight.

Kamitsuki, how beautiful that Nessun Dorma was played at your father's funeral and I feel sure that he's watching over you now. I was chatting to my Mum tonight (she's 75) and we got talking about Australian Idol. she watches every week and refers to Damien as "that beautiful Irish boy". LOL, and my Mum has got an eye for gorgeous men let me tell you. ;D
I couldn't agree with you more when you said "everyone needs to have those three beautiful people get on stage and sing their hearts out and bring some beauty and happiness back into all our lives." Oh man, if only everyone thought like that, the world would be a happier place.
Only one more sleep now until we see Damien again and hear him weave his beautiful magic once more. No sap here, I'm just a complete idiot by Sunday that's all, LOL.

Ah Kamitsuki that's really touching, and yes you'll have some memories there and a moment watching Nessun Dorma, but hopefully this time it will be more of a happy moment to share with your father in a different way, now some time has passed perhaps and you can think how much he would have loved it. Wow, was just so shocked to hear about Belinda, I wonder if this was all so sudden, Rove didn't seem stressed on his show this week but he has been bravely continuing for years while having this constant worry. Really feel for him I didn't know Belinda and Marcia had put out a song. Marcia will really feel the impact of beautiful music tomorrow. And thanks again for all the info flynn and mysterri! You are both giving some great background for tomorrow's show, so interesting to read!

You're welcome shimmery - I like sharing stuff here And mysterri - no LOL I could NOT imagine either jess or Dean being asked to do something this difficult by the judges. I couldnt imagine ANYONE being asked to do something like this until they did it this week to Damien. Getting nervous and excited PS I wonder what other songs they had in mind for him that were rejected. It would be interesting to know what else they would've liked to hear him sing.

Yes... almost as much as the performances I'm looking forward to the judges hopefully saying a little bit about why they chose the songs they did, and maybe listing some other options. Unchained Melody was an obvious choice for all of us, but the reasoning behind Nessun Dorma will be interesting because it is such a daring choice. My mother thinks it is because she has been wishing for Damien to sing Nessun Dorma for some time, and it somehow got through to Mark. I am not entirely sure whether I should be comforted by the idea of my mother having a mental connection to Mark Holden... I have to agree, it's great to have everyone get together on here and share their knowledge and experience and be able to discuss the music in detail like this. It shows how music can do so much to bring people together, and I'm just glad there are still people out there who are willing to let it do that!

It's really sad isn't it? Rove always seems so happy, it's difficult to imagine him sad, and they seemed to be such a lovely couple. Rove's show for this week is cancelled, and who knows when it will be back?

It is very sad that Belinda passed away, and I really feel for Rove who was apparently there with her when she died ... how hard would it be to watch someone that you love die in front of you?
