as far as I'm concerned him being runner up and losing to a giggling school girl would suck.... Indeed that would be! Now we don't want that to happen, do we? I really wish Jess can be a bit more mature (less giggling and smiling) about this competition otherwise I can never take her as a serious artist I haven't taken her seriously for one second.....Yes she has a good voice (nowhere near as glorious as Damien's)...but she is a child who giggles and carries on after her performance for longer than the performance actually was lmao. I'm pretty sure she will win this thing, have thought so for 3 months...but we have to give Damien the best chance of winning. |

Then if Dammy WANTS to win, why would we prevent that from happening? There's no guarantee if he'll get signed if he does not win *couchEmilycough*. Yes, I think it is good that we discuss this, but I object to the title of this thread because, to me, it implies that we endorse the idea of allowing Damien to come second, and that's just not a view most of us share. And I've gone and made us sound like some kind of company, haven't I?  The point I'm trying to make is that there are few to no guaranteed bonuses from coming second of itself. Shannon got a contract and did well because he and Guy had such different fanbases it was a sure bet they'd both have some success. Shannon knew what he wanted to do musically more than Guy, I think, and that's why he's done so much better. Anthony only came second because a bunch of silly, jealous people thought they'd 'get' him by voting for Casey, or fell for the judges' hype, and of course the truth was revealed in the album sales and Casey, was unfortunately a casualty of this. (Which I would hate to happen to Jess!) Anthony was always going to do well because of 'The Prayer', and because he's just a great singer and extremely experienced. Damien I rank with Shannon and Anthony as someone who will do well no matter what happens, but the win will get him off to a flying start. They are prepared for a singer-songwriter to win this year and will give him way more time and freedom than previous winners have gotten. On the other hand I think winning could potentially be disastrous for Jess because she's so young and sweet and will be exploited. I don't think being controlled by a record company/management will help her at all. If anyone needs more time to record an album, it's her. Damien pulled off Nessun Dorma live in a week - he knows what he wants and is capable of anything! *takes breath* I think everyone is just going to have to get used to my rants on this topic... when it comes to Damien and his future I randomly turn into a raging mother animal of some kind, which is... weird, I know. I'm not going to feel like I've done my job unless I convince the entire world that voting is the thing to do. Everyone I've talked to is voting for Damien too! We just have to make sure they each put in a few extra votes this week! |

i will definatly be voting! ALOT. also im a hairdresser so work with public etc. and have asked every1 of my clients who theyre voting for if theyre watching . 90% are for damien on average! YAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY That's great...out of all the ppl I know and have talked about idol it's about the same...only a couple of ppl prefer Jess...almost everyone I have talked to want Damien to win. |

While I admit that coming second has advantages, I'm not going to not vote just because of that. First or second - it doesn't matter that much, as either way he is a star, and I think we will be hearing an album from him either way. As I've said before, it would be great for Damien to come first, because I think he deserves to represent Australian music in the international music industry. However, I'm just going to vote like I normally do, nothing special, but nothing less either, and the first/second thing depends on the general public's voting. We've gotten this far; it's all icing on the cake from here. |

She comes across to me as someone who's going for a school camp rather than national singing competition. I can understand the fact that she is young - but the music isn't as sweet as she may expect... it's very deadly. Hence I hope that she actually takes a few years to ecperience life and matures a bit. So when she enters music industry she won't be destroyed. |

I dunno, she has been in a few comps, so she has some experience at singing. I wasn't talking about her singing career, though - I just think it's nice to see someone like her on TV! She's so down to earth - she always seems surprised when everyone cheers after she sings! I think she has a really endearing quality about her, and a lovely voice - when she sings she can be surprisingly intense! She's got nothing on Damien, of course! ;D But compared to Lisa... I can't wait to see Jess' reaction when she gets to the opera house! (OMG!!! Look at all the people!!! Squeeeee!) Something like that!  |

She is too much of a sweet girl to me... if she gets too caught up in happiness then she won't be prepared for the harsh reality of music industry. She's down-to-earth, granted. But too much SQUEEEE-ing can make my teeth ache -___-. I haven't seen her give an articulate response whenever asked by james or Andrew. It's always "I don't know... I mean *giggle* I love you guys... Squeeee". So yeah... get out there and experience a bitter side of life. |

Anyway, we have different opinions of Jess, but we're straying from the point of the thread...I vote for Damien not because I dislike Jess, but because, like you, I like Damien!!! ;D

That was my original thought as well, but now that I hear that the winner will have more time
and freedom in the production of the album I've changed my mind. I think that Damo is strong and mature enough to stand up for himself and do it the way he wants to. Certainly, he can handle it better than Jess who is too young yet, just like Casey. Plus, if he wants to win, that's good enough for me. Damien for Australian Idol 2006!

Oh, there' s other reasons I want him to win too... he's okay at that singing thing they do a lot on Idol too... Absolutely! He always gets through first, to the top 12 and the top 2, but he always looks incredibly surprised. I think there is always a niggling doubt in his mind that he isn't the "right sort" to win Idol - if he came first, it would prove just how much the nation supports him! He doesn't seem to get as much of a look-in as other Idols from the media and fans at live events, so to show everyone just how solid his voting followers are would be great! |
