I dont think I will buy the Audition dvd, it would upset me too much, bless his heart, I love him to bits, I think they should apologise to Damo for all that crap he put up with, it made me sick when Holden started crawling up Damo's backside toward the end, what a turn a round, pathetic really. Damien Leith is a role model on how to be a beautiful person (inside & out) I for one think he is absolutely gorgeously Sexy.

I so agree with you Well.
It makes me so ANGRY to think of what Damien had to go through. To have anyone speak to you the way Mark & Kyle spoke to Damien is just devastating. no one deserves to be spoken to like that... absolutely no one. Mark & Kyle have no excuses for how they put him down - or anyone else for that matter. it really is below the belt. They are cheap, pointless and stupid remarks and do not make for good television (obviously why they were edited out).
I guess we will just have to go with the old saying "sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me". Personally, from experience, I have foud words can be one of the most pain inflicting weapons around.
Sorry for ranting on.....I am so angry................
..and there must be a reason why my heart skips a beat when ever I look at Damien's eyes.......(sigh)

They need 3 new judges IMHO. I find Mark and Kyles obsession with Dean a little creepy. Even when Dean was out Mark had to keep going on he should have won and about his looks. When he was voted out Kyle asked him to take off his shirt. What was with that? And telling those girls to go up and show Dean what he meant to them. And when they just hugged him he said that wasn't enough he wanted to see them really show him. Surely Kyle knew they were his family because Mark knew. And yeah why was Kyle looking at Damo there anyway? Then when Andrew G and James tried to stick up for him he said some crass comment about you boys wouldn't want to talk about size and I'll size up against you guys or something like that. It's supposed to be a family show and they talk filth And telling Damien he was ugly, even if you think that about someone you don't say it straight up like that. Maybe Mark just wanted to see his reaction and I'm so glad it was a good one, that made me like him straight away. There was a few others in the show who I don't find very good looking either but they were never told they were ugly. Why just single out Damo? He's not ugly at all inside or out unlike Mark who is bitter and ugly to the core.

Anyway... is it just me or are they male judges are harsher towards male contestants when it comes to image? Honestly, Damien is repeatedly called ugly, Anthony being called he looked plastic/semi-realistic figure, Courtney being fat/unsexy, Lindsay West being called ugly etc etc. I just wonder why they are primarily criticising male contestants (for females, as far as I can see they are criticised for the attire, not how they physically look).

I actually thought they were a bit easier on guy with looks. If a girl went in there and was nothing to look at or I don't like using this word because I think it's rude but I don't see them ever putting through a girl that is so called ugly or plain. But then they can do a lot with makeup.

well I'm also not wanting to see those awful comment!! However, I really want to see the full version of Blower's Daughter, so for that reason I'll be buying it Speaking of looks and not meaning to be mean, but I really hate the way Anthony C has shaved his head!! He looks as though he's been deloused or something, he had such nice hair! Who would tell him to do that to himself!! And then we have the lovely Damien being criticised??! I don't get it, never did, always thought D was a sweetie!

Janny - I dont agree they're harsher on the boys. Most of the meanest most famous body image comments were aimed at the girls (jelly-belly, tuck-shop arms, lose a few pounds etc). I think the judge's are just overly obsessed with looks in general. And it becomes a self-fulfilling thing so hundreds of young Idol fans actually take that in and post copiously every year about how you HAVE to be good looking to be successful.
It's one of the things I really HATE about what Australian Idol does to the Aussie music industry and to young people's attitudes. Encouraging the cult of beauty over talent.

It's because of the videos, I'm convinced of that. MTV has a lot to answer for. Now you've you've got to look good-don't worry about the voice as they can cover it up/enhance it in the studio. How many great musicians from the past would make it today? Just went to the Elton John concert last night and he rocked! ;D Think that he would have made it today?

Maybe they need to have a think about changing the whole title of Australian Idol - it kind of evokes images of pop stardom and sadly that includes all the looks. If they have been courageous enough to up the age limit, let contestants play their own instruments, let contestants play their own songs and a 30 year old singer/songwriter who is unconventionally stunning (hubba hubba) was voted the winner, maybe they need to branch into a new area...Keep AI for the whole marketing package thing (think Dean for example). The word 'idol' just screams 'idol worship' rather than 'talent or music appreciation' to me. Actually, I really don't know what I'm talking about, but I think the root is that Damo has changed so many people's view of AI that maybe the change of direction needs to be taken one step further. *is seen wandering the streets muttering and twitching*

I agree about the connotations of the word 'idol'. I know in Japan the term has a tendency to imply someone who is possibly more marketing than talent, and I think that may have been the initial plan for Idol. Great artists all over the world are doing a lot to change that, Damien most of all. Perhaps some more work needs to be done regarding what they start out looking for...
On Anthony Callea, I was a bit puzzled by the dramatic change and I really think he's trying his hardest to shake that 'plastic' tag foisted on him by the show. His longer hair was beautiful, but it was an Idol thing, and just one more thing for people to make fun of him over. Stupid judges. They pick on someone like Anthony for being too attractive, and pick on someone like Damien for not having the 'look' that they're searching for. It's all about their personal opinions. Thank goodness in Damien's case, people have more sense than to listen to them...
