Damien: No 1 again this week on the ARIA Charts?

I hope NOML is No 1 again on the singles chart - 2 weeks in a row at the top spot would be a nice kick in the butt to those ignorant media critics already dismissing our Damo as a one week wonder. ;D ;D ;D

Well he's got some competition this week - Guy's Elevator Love, which is quite popular at the moment and has gotten decent promotion, and the Shannon Noll/Natalie Bassingthwaighte charity single. So there wouldn't be any shame in him not being at the top of the charts. Of course, we all know what the critics will say, so I hope he's #1 again too.

Is it just me? But I'm sure in the past idols have received alot more publicity. Eg. record shops had good supply of stock, idol posters advertising new song and cds on display in front of store.

No it's not just you. When I went to buy the single last week there was not 1 bit of promo to be seen And I had to ask for the single because they hadn't put it out. Hopefully it's changed this week

I really am not counting on D getting the number 1 spot again this week...

He really hasnt recieved a great deal of promotion this week..in the shops (aria accredited ones) that I have actually FOUND singles, they arent in the pimp spots (unlike some others :

All the effort is going into the album, which I think people will be buying instead of the single...do the math:

$3-$4 for 2 songs on the single
$18 for a CD plus DVD, which also contains the 2 songs above....


so I'm predicting a drop down....


and I dont think the album has much chance of a number 1 debut either...it was only available for just under half the chart week (if that), and he is up against the 12th man CD...the 12th man CD's debut at number 1 - WITHOUT FAIL!



Dont take this as being negative...charts shmarts I say, in the last 2 weeks D has shown the country what a talented and gorgeous he is. I dont an incomplete aria survey to tell me that

I am also really surprised at the lack of posters of displays I've seen in the shops - and Anthony's CD seems to be getting more tv ads, etc. Actually, I don't think I've seen one tv ad for Damien yet! Are there any?

I don't think the album will be number 1 cos it's only on sale for like 3 days before the chart is released as the other albums have had the whole 7 days.....I really think the cd/dvd should of been released on monday so it had the whole week then I think it would of been number 1....Not sure about the single....I think ppl would of bought the cd/dvd which has the single on it instead of buying the single so that might not be at number 1 either....it could be though.
Why aren't sony promoting him more argh!

The official release date for the album is 9 Dec, which I think means it shouldn't be in this weeks' chart anyway, because they are calculated to today.

Hey shims..Zaphod (Mr Trill) just told me he's seen lots of TV adds this evening. YAY..looks like the promos have finally begun in earnest!!

I actually saw an add 4 the cd/dvd this morning, my husband called out to me & said here's your man honey ;)But i do agree with u about the promotion stuff ,i've hardly seen any either & have had to go looking .I don't understand why sony arn't giving him more

What is that 12th man thing? I've been seeing that CD advertised everywhere and I have no idea what it is still... shows you how out of the loop I am! Too busy researching Damien to get into what else is going on in music... tsk, tsk!

Yeah, I think the way this has all been set up makes it pretty tough for Damien to get the top spots this week. But I don't think that's a bad thing. There's loads of demand for his music no matter what the charts say, and a lot of great artists have hovered somewhere near but not at the top for a while - Pete Murray's 'Feeler' took ages to finally snare #1, and 'So Beautiful' didn't even get to #1 if I remember correctly!

Staggered sales may be good for him in the long run - look at how things have gone for poor Anthony: his first album and the singles were so successful, and now his new album has only just come out and everyone's saying it's a failure because it hasn't had quite the level of manic popularity initially. It's rubbish but people have already tried to push that kind of press on Damien and it wouldn't be so bad for him to have prolonged sales rather than an initial burst. He's got the talent and the fanbase to be around for the long haul anyway, no matter what the ARIA charts say. And that's why I'm going to put a positive spin on no matter what happens tomorrow night chart-wise.

I saw ads promoting "The Winner's Journey" on TV, Friday afternoon, and NOML is still getting heaps of radio airplay in Sydney, + don't forget a lot of people would have watched Damien on SUNRISE - so I don't think you can accuse Sony of not giving him enough promotion.
However, I wouldn't expect NOML to stay at #1 this week - too much competition from Scissor Sisters and that Shannon Noll/Natalie Bassingwaite song.

Wow, just listened to it on NOVA and am very excited! He was up against such stiff competition this week, that it shows his vast appeal. Imagine when he gets promoted better!!!!!!!!!!
