Tina, I have called out for it a couple of times too (prior to Perth) so last night, I was really surprised and delighted when Damien sang it. He was really obliging to the audience to try and cover their requests. Danny Boy, Crying, Hallelujah, Nessun Dorma, Creep and N O M L were all audience requests. Who knows if they were on the original set list or not.
*very happy*

I know I'm not the only one who loves that song Braffy!! So good for you guys that he sang it! I hope it got a rapturous reception so he is encouraged to sing it more often (like he obviously has with Nessun D.) Damien is obviously very influenced by the crowd in how he crafts his shows. When he played in Freo, my dh kept shouting out for him to sing "The Times They are a Changing" since he is a big Dylan fan and loves Damien's interpretation of the song. When we talked to D after, my husband asked why he didn't sing that one. Damien said something like "oh, it was you shouting out for that one? Well, I played it somewhere (I think he mentioned Revesby) and it didn't get a very good response, so I haven't played it since". So, I'm sure all you 's gave him enough encouragement to sing Creep again!!!

The evening started really well for me cause despite the heavy traffic, we got to the club in good time and didn't get lost once (Dmac - sack the sat-navigator!). When I got to the booking office I was surprised at how happy they were giving out the tickets to people. I think they loved the way everyone was going "ooh, i got it! ;D " and were just waiting for my similar reaction... and so I didn't disappoint them In fact, all the staff I approached that night, including the front door men and the South Terrace Cafe ladies,, were just lovely and cheerful! No grumble-bums anywhere. Mind you, the queues to the concert were really long and delayed the start of the show but people were really happy to be there (at least they got tickets to this sold out show!) Wow!!! Sounds great!!! And CREEP!!!! That was my request!! (Damien, if you are reading this, that was for Perth not Sydney!!! I so wish I could have been there to hear that one!!! You lucky lucky girls!!! Tina, when Damien returned from the break for his solo part, he listed some of the old favourites to gauge the audience reactions - everything was called out and I think he was surprised to hear so many calls for Creep ( a few from ). Still, Nessun Dorma won the audience vote and he got those standing ovations around the room for his effort. Following it up with Crying I'm sure I could hear a couple of sniffles(but even more so when he did do Danny Boy at the end of the night as the first encore. Lots of requests for that one!) But with more Creep! being yelled out , he then went into telling how it was one of his wedding songs and then went on to sing it in the rockier way with the incredible high notes at the end (suited the audience better) - not that lovely quirky-intimate way he did in the 2007 concert - but still a stunner! What a bonus ;D Then double bonus he also did Hallelujah ;D ;D I don't think a lot of these were planned and Damien was just using his experience to fit with the Rooty Hill crowd's taste. It was the first night that Jimmy did Night of My Life - what a great job he did too and this was also a request. Earlier, when Damien started talking about how hard it was to sing a particular song and get the words right I was sure he was leading to Vincent but did instead If. i loved hearing the deep chuckles of the men around me enjoying Damien's jokes (especially the 'being busy since Idol' stories and 'having babies...' ones).

Thanks for the reports, ladies! Glad you had a great time, michele! ;D hmmm...gropage, huh?? Nuffy, you are so right about the way D sizes up his audience and gives them what they want. He is superb at it! That has to be the years of pub gigging experience coming out in him. Love it!

Thanks Trilly and Smiley. Yeah, the crowd were a bit tough at first but Damien got them worked out pretty well and they softened up and got into the music. Damien's done such a range of styles - so brilliantly each time too- ant that's why he's such a fantastic live performer cause he's got so many aces up his sleeve! It's really up to his supporting musos to keep up with Damien. What a tough job for them What a range of people there were too. I loved seeing some of his lovely Pharmalab workmates (ladies ) there wearing their white surgical shower-caps waving their Idol flags at him. One even got to go to the stage at the end of the first set to give him something and he looked so appreciative that they were there. But I don't think he could see them, or anyone, in the audience too well cause it was so dim. ....Then there were a few very vocal and loudly luuurving groups around "Get yer pants off!!!!" after the more mild "Get your shirt off" from someone in the front (not mentioning any names kaz ) and the incredibly rude one on the phone telling friends how she's watching Damien! Hiya Lady Di, Kazzababe, Michelle and Braffy-friend (don't know if you want your name used? ) It was really nice to meet up with you all and I'm glad we were able to find a nice quiet part of the club, in the Southern Terrace Cafe, to have the after-glow Hut... at least we could hear each other squeee!

I noticed that too Tina. And maybe they should have because when he mentioned that he'd had undies and other stuff thrown up on stage... some guy said aloud "You hope" and I felt like saying to the guy "You mean, you hope!" Very vocal audience last night but all except that comment were showing their D-light! It's great how Damien's so relaxed on stage - or appears to be- whether it's 70 or 400 or even 200,000. I met a woman in line who was on her own - having picked up one of the last three tickets just that week (all single seats). She had only bought the single Night of My Life years ago and didn't realise that Damien had even made other albums since but had to see him at Rooty Hill cause she lives nearby. I would not be at all surprised if she adds a couple of cd's to her collection after the show. She looked pretty won over at the end of the night.

Nuffy.... a perfect opportunity for you to whip your knickers or bra off and hurl them up on the stage!! Can't believe you (or one of the other 's) didn't do it!!! Maybe you need to bring a spare pair for tonight, just in case there are some unbelievers in the audience again!!

Thanks so much for the reports. It sounds like it was a fabby night as always and Damien was in fine form and had the audience eating out of the palm of his hand. Did you behave yourselves in your little hut afterwards lol?
