Okay, finally a "speech" from me. Loved all your reports lovelies ;D
On the Road Again - Rooty Hill RSL, Friday July 18
After an eventful journey( Navb..... )which took 3 and a half hrs instead of 2 ;D , I arrived at The Holiday Inn - A rather luxurious place to stay with spacious, spotless rooms and ensuite....I had room for 3 people ;D and could have swung several cats ;D. It also happens to be adjoining and part of the Rooty Hill RSL complex. Staff are friendly and obliging and I highly recommend it as an excellent place to stay as it's also fantastic value($135) ;D
Being hungry, we wandered around to the Stardust Cafe, where some decided a quick light meal was the way to go and others opted for a bigger meal at the Zest Wok N'Grill. The dinner there was thoroughly enjoyed and reasonably priced, actually the roast was so big - I couldn't eat it all but was still yummy.
En route to the Waratah Room we encountered Indi Starr, looking for a quick dinner, needing a smoke and still to dress. But she did chat for acouple and acknowledged how tired they were after getting back at 4am from their road trip. Then outside the Room Jimmy Roach was battling his way through the sold-out crowd with a plate of cooling chips and dinner. With intervention he made it through and the friendly and courteousstaff showed us to our tables. Inside, the room was set out with a lower and encircling upper level, which allowed for great viewing of the stage. The ceiling light was an interesting, almost celtic pattern of swirling green lights, while the other lighting was intimate and cosy.
Damien Leith was looking"ruggedly handsome" and hawt in his tight black jeans , shiny black leather shoes, dark grey patterned t-shirt and soft black leather jacket. Damien was initially supported by Jimmy Roach on acoustics guitar. They were warmly welcomed by the audience, especially the s, and Damien responded by fulfilling as many requests as he could. What an amazing playlist it was. One of my favourites first up was Never Meant to Fail , followed by Catch the Wind with an exciting acoustics solo by Jimmy and a humorous discussion of Jimmy's similarity to Gary Sinese and the various items of underwear tossed onto the stage, including a leopard print g-string. Indi Starr on electric violin was introduced and we were treated to Guitar Man/Stairway to Heaven. Celebration was discussed with a demonstration of the pogo hop and samples of "new" better dance moves.....ha! Then came Annie's Song, a request (although someone requested it again straight after he finished it and another wanted the National Anthem ) and then the wonderful If, which always brings a quiet hush to the room. Damien then talked about Idol and the uncertainty and stresses which were partly overcome by the birth of his son Jagger which also led to Not Just For the Weekend - which was also the theme for the show Damiwn Leith's Saving Kids. Damien followed with a discussion of his unrequited love as a shy, "but handsome" 11 year old with no success at 'the wall' in the school yard - 22 Steps was followed by Everybody's Talking, a rather funny audience participation number with varying train noises of wah, wah, toot, toot and was enjoyed by all, featuring a solo by Indi on shaker .
Breathtaking and amazing was the a cappella performance of Nessun Dorma by a solo Damien at the start of the second playlist...... the reverberation in audio was apparent as was the standing ovation and Touchdown from Damien. he talked about Mark and how it would now have to be a flicko from Dicko, but decided he wasn't going there after the suggested visualisation and a few evil laughs from the audience. Although given the choice of Crying or Creep, we were treated to both , how lucky were we , just sensational solo performances totally appreciated by the audience. Jimmy emerged and was cajoled into walking down the catwalk as was Indi when she too appeared, with hearty calls from the patrons, especially the males ! Next song was the fantastic Hallelujah, which included Jimmy's guitar solo of Sleepwalker, followed by the exquisitely beautiful Beautiful and the magnificent Baby I Love YourWay/Fall at Your Feet and more guitar solos. The last two numbers Night of My Life and Wild World were audience participation numbers with heart involvement by us all.
The standing ovation and cries of encore and more from patrons saw Damien come out to do another request Danny Boy or Wicked Game. The electric violin certainly adds a haunting lilt to Danny Boy and this was followed by an uplifting, then pulse-raising Wicked Game, which now has a totally Irish sound added to the end with the electric violin by Indi, guitar by Jimmy and the racing, joyous Irish dancing performed by Damien. I think everyone was exhausted by the end, with exhuberant audience clapping and an electic performance by all on stage!
A thoroughly enjoyable night and outstanding experience! ;D
