I am back...............................I would Have written earlier but within 10 minutes of getting home, my #1 daughter rang to say she was coming over for a visit. I had found out only moments before (not that I needed to be told) that there were 8 teenagers at my place last night, so a lot of hurried cleaning up had to happen.
The road trip started with picking up Dawn from the station. I had already conveniently place a sick bucket in the front of the car. Dawn does not travel well.
We set off and discussed getting to the Motel at Penrith. I was saying we would go the M4 and get off at Mulgoa Road. The motel was in that street, just down from where Houndsy and Carla were staying (at Panthers Chifley Motel). Dawn was saying that she would have been going the Great Western Highway, because the Motel was just off that.
Anyway, as driver we went the M4 and duly took the Mulgoa Road exit.
We were going along and then suddenly I said, whoa there it is, the Quality Inn and turned immediately into the driveway. Dawn said, but it is supposed to be the corner of the Highway and Memorial Avenue.
On further inspection of the paperwork, it was discovered that we had booked into Penrith Valley Inn
so we looked up the directory to find out how to get there. (Pretty easy).
We decided that it wouldn't be a proper road trip if we didn't get lost or waylaid en route to our destination.
On checking in we were being given all these instructions on what we had to do when we got back late at night, not to go through this door or that. The alarms would be set off and they wouldn't appreciate being woken up etc. We had to go up stairs and along corridors, unlocking a glass door, down more stairs, around the corner and then we would find our unit.
We thought we would do a trial run, so off we went. As we were waling along the top corridor, I grabbed Dawn's arm and stood frozen to the spot. Dawn and heard it too and we listened intently to 'All I Want Is You' coming out of a large looking room. We decided to be brave and take a peek
. It was a dining room/ kitchen area and the song was playing at a lovely (loud) volume. We stayed listening to it with big grins on our faces ;D. I said to Dawn, I bet that is MIX playing it. Sure enough, at the end of the song there was a MIX ad.
for MIX. What a great addition to our road trip.
By this stage it was time to go, so we quickly freshened up and changed our clothes and left for the Gaels Club.
We had arranged to meet Houndsy and Carla for 6pm and Kazza and Michele wanted us to save them a seat too.
When we arrived it was already full in the car park. We were lucky to get a place. What a lovely little club it is. The bistro was full. Carla and Houndsy
were with Lozzy and Lozzie's mum on a table for 4. There were no other tables so we just yakked for a bit. We decided to then go into another area and take our food in there. Kazza and Michele soon joined us.
It then became time to go in for the show. The girls already knew where to sit because they had the same seats from the night before. Down the front in true tradition.
Dawn has the set list and she will give it to you when she returns, unless she posts while I am typing this up
.
I must say though that Damien started off with 'Shine Like the Sun'. He knows that I love that song and during it he looked over in our direction, noticed me and gave me one of those eyebrow raising acknowledgment smiles that he does.
Thank you so much Damien.
He was really funny during the show. Lots of new gags, some old ones but always told in a refreshing way. Eric was aiding and abetting in a lot of the gags. There is such a wonderful rapport between the two of them.
After interval, I had the opportunity of moving to the front next to Carla. We had a great time together and it was so nice to give Carla a shoulder to literally cry on
.
Damien sang Crying, Beautiful
, Goodnight. The list goes on and on.
The second half of the show absolutely overshadowed the first half if that was possible. Carla has mentioned about Vincent being sung. It was a fantastic rendition. Damien nailed it.
After Damien sang Beautiful, Dawn took the two steps to the stage and handed Damien a gift bag and a lovely bunch of flowers. Damien was encouraged to open his gift and it was a large box of 'Bounties' - his favorite. He was chuffed
He had said previously that Bounties were his favorite chocolates and Dawn had remembered. Go Dawn
All too soon it was over and after we had a Hut we headed back to our various destinations.
Dawn and I were having a proper PJ party. Yak yak yak when all of a sudden - bang - the lights went out. Total darkness. This was just after Dawn emptied everything from her suitcase onto her bed so that she could re pack her bag.
We had a blackout at the Motel, which we found out this morning was caused by a lightening strike. We were putting on our mobile phones/cameras etc trying to get some light so Dawn could get her things. Dawn then realised that the security EXIT light was still on in the hallway, so we propped open our room door to let the light enter our room so she could finish the job. This was well after 1 am. We then had no choice but to 'call it a night' and after discussing what the little flash that we kept seeing was, we confirmed that it was the smoke detector. 2 1/2 hours later the power was restored.
We had a lovely breakfast, got ourselves organized and then headed off on the return leg of the 'road trip'.
Thank you Dawn and everyone else for making this another special weekend away with ;the girls'.
Damien was in fine form, by the way, the bright yellow T Shirt that he was wearing said 'All for money'. Black
jeans
and a cheeky smile.
