From this week, our project contact, the lovely Monica from the Special Olympics, will be commencing maternity leave, with her baby due in the new year.
Wishing her all the very best health & a safe delivery & looking forward to working with her again on projects for the SO next year when she returns.
While she is away, Monica has arranged for Amy Lovegrove from the SO to be our contact there from this point on for this year's project. I will update the info in the general info panel of this post as well to reflect this.
SO contact details are Amy Lovegrove amyl@specialolympics.com.au
The special gift given this time of year from the Damienites really means a lot to them. Monica said to thank ALL of you for your generous support of the SO and to wish you all a very Happy Christmas and New Year!
11th OCT
The 2009 project tallies will commence in December, with exciting regular tally updates for us to view in the Secret Plans area as the final date approaches.
However, if you would like to start participating earlier this year, or perhaps would prefer to make regular contributions to budget your contribution over time, that option is available to you.
On the Special Olympics Australia Official Site follow their green “Donate” link on the left menu to Donate ONLINE direct to the SO on their official site. Once on the SO donate page, in the area where you fill in your details, there is also a "Damien Leith Birthday Project" option on the drop-down menu for you to record your participation in the project.
If you make an early contribution via the donations page, please still also follow the Contributions steps below as usual so your participation can be noted in the letter for Damien.
What is the DAMIEN LEITH ONLINE BIRTHDAY PROJECT?
- and how can I be part of it?
Every year around Christmas/New Year, we come together here at DLO for the annual DLO Birthday Project to benefit Special Olympics Australia - for which Damien is an Ambassador.
The idea for our project is a gesture from us to celebrate and honour Damien’s birthday each year, and has his blessing. Direct contributions are made to the Special Olympics Australia organisation by those who wish to participate. As the project progresses, the tally is updated regularly until we reach the grand total in time for Damien’s birthday on January 18th.
Your contributions go directly to the Special Olympics - no money is handled by anyone at the forum, and all contributions receive an official receipt and are tax deductible.
Damien receives a letter at the completion describing that year's project and the grand total raised for the SO. In the past two years, DLO has raised over $3,200 for the Special Olympics via this project alone, and members have also volunteered and participated in activities and fundraising events for the SO.
For more information on how the project works you may like to visit the thread for the 2008 Project and if you have any questions, please send me a pm.
CONTRIBUTIONS:
Donate
On the Special Olympics Australia Official Site link follow their green “Donate” sign on the left menu to Donate ONLINE direct to the SO on their official site or to register there that you are forwarding a cheque or payment. As mentioned previously, once on the SO donate page, in the area where you fill in your details, there is also a "Damien Leith Birthday Project" option on the drop-down menu for you to record your participation in the project.
VERY IMPORTANT STEPS:
Please send a confirmation email to Amy Lovegrove at the Special Olympics after you have made your donation or sent your cheque to ensure that your donation can be recorded as part of the Birthday Project.
Amy Lovegrove amyl@specialolympics.com.au
In your email to Amy, please confirm the details of the donation (name, amount, date, method) and your return address so she can send your receipt.
It is also very important that you send her your FORUM name (or Anonymous), and confirm how you wish your name to appear on the SO letter for Damien, or also for any public letter for the forum, so that the list can be prepared of all forum members who contributed. Individual amounts will not be included on the letter, the amount contributed will remain a private matter between you and the Special Olympics.
Please also PM me to confirm your participation - no one from the forum, including me, will know the amount you have contributed or your personal details. However I also need to know how you wish your name (or Anonymous) to appear on the forum’s birthday letter for Damien, or for any public letter for the forum, so that I can confirm all the final names for the letter with Amy and ensure no one has been left off.
If you are new to the forum and would like to participate, please join in, you are most welcome.
Every contribution counts greatly, no matter what size - it all comes with your good wishes and good will.
THANK YOU in advance for your support for the project!
