I've been reading some threads on the OS suggesting songs for the top 12 that would suit them. Sometimes I think the ones suggested for Damien don't really seem to understand his musicality very much. He seems to be far more interesting musically than some realise.
While I'm sure as a stage performer Damien has loads of song choices, I think it's always fun to think about song choices and who knows, maybe one of us will come across the perfect song that hadn't been considered before.
Looking forward to seeing what you'll come up with. My early thoughts mostly come after seeing "You Are So Beautiful" because we haven't seen any of the other songs in their full entirety - Damien really kicked into the latter half of that song and gave the sentiment a lot of strength and intensity. So, I think other lyrical songs that have similar potenital for an emotional punch would suit him.
thinking... thinking....

Yeah, he did the Blower's Daughter-he introduced it as 'the song from the movie Closer...(you know, the one with Natalie portman, jude law, clive owen and julia roberts)' Which is where id heard it first and then i went and brought Damien Rice's album and that is PART of the reason why i like Damien on idol!!

Great thoughts so far girls!
Looks like a lot of us got our wish and heard Damien singing a U2 song tonight ;D I was really surprised and delighted!
OMG, I loved the Blower's Daughter song so much, loved the original as well. A perfect song for him.
It may now be too late for Damien to do another by Bono (hope not!) because after some thoughts I think he would absolutely be suited to "Love is Blindness". That is a very emotional intense song that has a lot of light and shade, and if you've ever heard the live version, (from ZOOTV concert) it just goes spiralling off into the most amazing different key. I saw Bono do that live years ago and it has haunted me, it was so so wonderful.
The other perfect song I was thinking was also by Bono, written for Roy Orbison - "She's a Mystery Girl". Now this song has beginning almost like a quiet heartbeat that leads to an epic operatic crescendo and massive punch that gives you tingles and Damien could give it everything.
Well, they're my thoughts for today! Love reading what everyone is suggesting!!

I have a song that i think Damien would absolutly fit and gain more fans and basically blow everyone away with... Well tonight I decided to pull out my old Idol songs and give em a play back and I was listening to Dan Englands version of Unchained Melody and then my sister started tapping on the wall. I went in to check on what she wanted and she suggested that Damien would sound great singing this song - just think of the notes he could hit *goes away dreamy* Anyway, yea I just though it would be a wonderful song choice if the suitable genre arose

Your wish has already come true Neski Well, sort of! If you remember back to the shows when the Idols were doing the theatre auditions a few weeks back, Damien sang Unchained Melody! And we got to hear - oh about 5 seconds of it!!!! I don't think we even saw him for more than a second, they just played him singing it as they did a summary of all the events before his performance of "You Are So Beautiful". And yes, he sang it like an angel. So let's just hope that someone at Idol decides to show us a bit more of this It's one of my favourite songs too, which was why I was so happy at the time to hear it!

Neski, if you have the tape of when Damien sang "You are so Beautiful" watch the intro segment just before that again, Damien was singing Unchained Melody in the little piece they put together before he sang. We just never got to see his performance of it at the time in those shows about the theatre auditions - hope they do show it one day! Edit: Just thinking about it, maybe they just had a tape of him singing it and played it over the pictures of those theatre auditions. Like in the way they played Damien singing "Danny Boy" last week during his little intro segment. Lol, I loved how Damien also got some airplay for "Come to Me" in that segment too!! Bravo!

*comes back empty handed* I uhh found the tape - but uhhh - Damien is no where to be found Hopefully its on another taped over old movie tape...But seriously i do not remember him ever singing Unchained Melody...neither does my sister. Hallelujah was the one where he stood up infront of everyone at the theatre and played the guitar - i remember that soo clear!
